Health Center and BMC Students

Hi guys,

I am a BMC student who is considering majoring at Haverford, should I not get a creative writing major. For this reason, I am strongly considering living on Haverford’s campus as a part of the Bi-Co exchange. However, I noticed that Haverford’s Health Center does not serve BMC students when I got a migraine on-campus. Bryn Mawr’s public safety had to come pick me up and drag me to their health center.
The Bi-Co exchange would be ideal since I would be closer to my professors and have easier access to the English Department. If they cannot provide me with Health services, however, I do not know if I can participate in said exchange because, on top of my migraines, I struggle with a lifelong chronic illness. Would Haverford provide me health services if I lived on-campus in the exchange or would health services (and a desire to be closer to my chosen department) be a sufficient reason to transfer?

Thanks guys!

I am not familiar with the health services issues; however, as a BMC alum – granted from the 80s’ – I do not think that living at H’ford would affect the closeness of your relationship with H’ford professors or ability to be integrated into a H’ford department.

You might have some juggling to do in the first year when you are taking more intro-level courses across different departments, but once you are past that, you have more control over where you take classes, study, eat etc.

I was technically a BMC poli sci major, but did almost all my coursework at H’ford. As a result, I ate at H’ford, studied in the library etc, ran the nature trails there. You have the opportunity to be engaged with your professors at both BMC and H’ford, without regard to where your room is. In one of my senior year H’ford seminars, we met on Sunday evenings for supper and then discussed the texts/our work. Where I lived had no impact on my academic experience.

Great intellectual communities, enjoy.
