Health insurance implications if high school age student file tax independently

If a student files taxes independently, can parent still claim them on the family health insurance forms when parents are supporting high school student more than 50% support. Just thinking through any advice.

Any ‘child’ can get insurance on a parent’s group policy until age 26. Parent doesn’t have to supply any support at all. The ‘child’ can be married filing jointly and still get insurance through the parent.

Your question asked if the child is ‘independent’. Did you mean dependent, as you then said the parents are providing 50% of support? A child isn’t independent if parents are providing 50% + of support.

Well I may have not clearly spelled out as much as I wanted to do so. Kids is only filing taxes as an individual. However parents are supporting 16 years old by providing more than 50% of support.

You did answer me that kid will not loose health insurance coverage even if she files taxes separately.
