I’m looking for a health insurance that coverage fully because my school doesn’t pay for my health insurance I’m paying out of pocket each time I go see a doctor. I don’t want something going to cost me an arm n leg. Anyone that knows anyone that can get something of cheaper costs let me know
Can’t you purchase a health insurance plan through your univerisity/college? Or if you are under 26 you can still be carried on a parent’s plan.
You will have to prove that you have health insurance that meets the minimum requirements of your college. Once you enroll in college full time, you will be required to have health insurance…paying out of pocket will not be an option.
It is very possible that the college plan will be your least expensive option.
Are you employed? Because if you have no income, you would not be eligible for ACA subsidies, and would need to get an individual plan in your state of residence…that meets the college requirement.
Are you currently in college? How old are you? If under 25, can you still be under yoir parent plan for the upcoming year?
And lastly…how much is the health insurance cost from your college?
Are you an international student studying in the US?
Is there usually a cheaper alternative to the college plan for an international student? Cost for my college is $912 per semester.
$912 a semester is really a good price for health insurance. I doubt you will be able to find less costly insurance here.
Thanks.
I asked because I was comparing the annual health insurance costs at 3 schools for international students :
Rutgers : $1,824
Wisconsin : $1,296
CalPoly SLO : $ 981
I guess they are in different states but they differ quite a bit.
U of Michigan’s is wicked expensive – like $4,000! Your price is pretty typical, I think. We have purchased insurance through our state exchange in 2 different states in the past three years for my college junior. The premiums have been around $2,000 per year. Her school plan is something like $1,700 per year.
Have you looked into Medicaid?
@LasMa I don’t think international students (non-citizens) can get medicaid. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong.)
Oh, you’re right. I missed that the OP is an international.
Just take the insurance through the school. You might save a few dollars getting a private plan, but you’d have to compare coverage, and you know your plan works at the school and surrounding providers.
