Healthcare at Patton????

My DS was diagnosed last week with mononucleosis. He is being treated at Patton.

I should have, but never took the time to investigate the care there while I was on campus. (Shame on me!)

Does anyone have any information as to the staffing compliment, process and level of care there? As far as I know, everything is ok, but as a healthcare provider, I want to be sure that he is getting adequate follow-up.

Thanks for your input.

Who has your son been kissing lately??? :)

Patton is basically a family practice/pediatrics outpatient office in one half of the first floor and a dental practice on the other half. There are no inpatient facilities (there used to be many moons ago). Day to day it is usually staffed by a few PA’s with an MD there several days a week. There is the appropriate amount of ancillary support (Nursing, MA’s, etc) for an outpt clinic. For any further care the midshipmen are sent to North Shore Hospital which is a tertiary care hospital or any number of specialists about town.

As you know there’s not much to do for mono, so they could pretty much have a LPN there and your son would probably be fine with this illness. Just make sure he’s avoiding most sports activities (he’s not doing self defense class right now hopefully) and tell him to quit kissing so many different girls :)

Just a short note to let you know that I heard from the PA taking care of my DS. She was great! She informed me that my DS had been seen by the attending physician and that she was following up on labs and had re-examined him today. She told me to call anytime and had made sure that appropriate HIPPA forms had been signed. (Because, technically, my DS is an adult now!!!) She also made some other observations and made him appointments at two other specialists.

I was very impressed with the care. Being a Nurse Practitioner myself, I was worried, but now I feel very confident. WHEW!! OK…now I am happy…

Just to tie into the concerns about medical care, our son had his knee rebuilt for the second time last year. The first time while in high school, torn ACL and once at KP, torn meniscus and ACL. The whole process was amazing; the coaching staff. the trainers. the medical staff at KP and North Shore medical were wonderful. Since we had this done once before under our insurance we sort of knew what to expect. The whole KP team just exceeded our expectations by a good country mile. If your child has the misfortune to get injured or sick at KP they are in great hands.

One note of caution don’t miss an appointment with the Dentist, 30 days restriction!!
