Well right now I’m going to school like everyone else, but my workload is pretty heavy like many of you. From Mon-Thurs I go to school from about 7:30am-12:30pm, then I have an internship from 1:30pm-5:30pm, and I get home around 6:00pm-6:30pm (cause of rush hour). By the time I get home I am pretty much pooped.

I’m a PoliSci major, and I would like to double major in Rhetoric (UCB) as well but my main goal in the end is law school. Right now I’m taking a class required for my PoliSci prerequisites, the professor is great, but it’s intense. I’m afraid that the most I can do is get a “B” in the class, though I am trying my hardest for an “A”, but I just can’t seem to balance my schedule where I can get all the work done.

Now GPA is first of course, so I’m wondering if maybe I should drop this class? I will still remain a full-time student with 12 semester units because I’m taking a night class the second eight weeks (which means right after work I go back to school, then get home at 10pm). I could stay a PoliSci major if I take this class next semester in the Fall, but classes are getting cut so it will be a rush just to get certain classes. I could just apply as a rhetoric major though.

I already missed a few days of classes because of a health emergency so I’m behind, and gah. This is only my second semester. Sorry guys just stressing a bit. Any advice?

My take on the whole thing is, if you think the class will provide you with an enriching experience and you feel that you are going to get a lot out of it, then stay. Don’t drop the class because your afraid you may get a B, instead of an A. On the other hand, if the class adds too much stress to your already stressful life, then you should drop it, but in my book it should only be under that reasoning.

why don’t you drop another class? I think getting all of your prereqs done looks better than missing one, even if you don’t get all As. And why do you have to be fulltime? It’s not like it would look bad on your application, since you’re working so much.

At this point I’ve decided to stay in the class because, like you said, I will get so much out of it. I’m still trying to balance things out, but I’m starting to get the hang of my “busy” schedule. Unfortunately, I still have that crazy fear of getting a B-grade, but due to the budget cuts and the amount of classes that will be cut next semester, I think I am lucky to be enrolled in a class I actually need, so I should take full advantage of it while I can.

I have to be full-time, so I can receive my full financial aid. And like I said above, the classes I’m taking right now all go towards my IGETC and prerequisite requirements, so I really need them. Good news though! My internship ends in the end of March, so a little under two months, and the purpose of this thread will cease to exist.
