Hello! I applied for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship in November and was notified in December that I was a semi-finalist. I am a non-traditional African-American female seeking a degree in History and hopefully will move on to my masters. I attend a community college in Houston Texas and I have applied to University of Wisconsin-Madison (I grew up not far from there) University of Texas Austin (Awesome history program) and College of William and Mary (hello, HISTORY!). I currently have an internship with the African-American Library at the Gregory School here in Houston, and I have also published 2 articles on the George Washington Digital Encyclopedia on the Revolutionary War (which is my concentration). I started an organization in 2016 to assist minority girls reach their potential and seek a college education. I also volunteer with the immigrant community (free ESL classes) and with other historical projects currently going on in the Houston area. I just joined Phi Theta Kappa and I will be studying abroad in Italy in May/June. It really is an honor just to make it to the semi-finalist list! I hope everyone the best of luck and look forward to reading your posts!
