Hello! It's time for...

Well, I’ll take the second option, assuming I’m injured, but not dead.

Dare you to answer your own questions.

Lool!!

I’d probably do the same as you, although I’d be left with no dignity and blood in places on my body i didn’t know i had.

Touch

Anyone want to ask, for lack of a better word, better questions?

My questions are amazing!

Here!..You have a brain tumor. Though there is no discomfort at the moment, this tumor would unquestionably kill you in six months. However, your life can (and will) be saved by an operation; the only downside is there will be a brutal incision to your frontal lobe. After the surgery, you will be significantly less intelligent. You will be a fully functioning adult, but you will be less logical, you will have a terrible memory, and you will have little ability to understand complex concepts of difficult ideas. The surgery is in two weeks. How do you spend the next fourteen days?

What I normally do, but amplified and without stress. If it comes at this point in life, that would suck as I don’t have a fulfilling job…but I would spend time with people, still watch movies and read…and just enjoy life. Travel. Write/produce something.

Same with later in life, but hopefully I will be able to do something with a life-fulfilling, happy job as well.

That question was about 45% better…

One historical figure is enabled to make a CC account. Who would you hope it is?

Woah. Deep. Let’s see, who would be fun and smart and not overtly obnoxious…and who would even want to post here?! Haha.

Okay. Got it. This isn’t exactly TOO historical, but Kurt Vonnegut would be an awesome poster, I think.

OMG. ^Just necro that thread and don’t be a jerk. :)

Is the whole the sum of its parts?

If you think that that question cannot be answered generally, feel free to take a specific example, as long as it isn’t something obvious, like air. The human mind is a classic example.

Why is the sky blue? I forgot, people always tell me and I always forget. Is it because of the gases in the atmosphere?

^[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=why+is+the+sky+blue)

Haha.

89 ?

So, this answer may seem like a cop-out, but I think the whole can be equal to the sum of its parts, more than, or less than. Really.

It can be equal, if dealing with something more concrete (e.g. 5+5=10).

To explain that latter two…

It can be less than if despite greatness in many aspects, the added sum just isn’t as great as those separate aspects (what I believe to be the case in “No Country For Old Men,” which has great performances, directing, and writing…but in the end the film’s overall quality isn’t quite as good as, say, Javier Bardem’s acting.)

It can be more than if the factors working together allow it to be (re: synergy). Synergy happens all the time, and I’m sure there are tons of things to exemplify it, so I’ll just leave that open…unless this needs elaboration (?).

Ok. There are tons of views on that: Kant with his epistemological theories, Hegel with his crazy “a thing is both itself and not-itself” stuff, neurologists with their various opinions on the human mind, Douglas Hofstadter, who argues that, yes, the whole is the sum of its parts, and the postmodernists, who generally argue that Hofstadter is on crack (although more politely and very respectfully).

It really is a major philosophical issue.

^Yeah, I’m not really up on philosophers…not too knowledgeable about it. I know SOME basics, and have read some stuff, but not really too much to speak intelligently about specific philosophies. I just said what I thought :)

Neither can I, but I can BS well. :D

^I had to read Hegel for this class. He annoyed me (“art is dead” ***). And I can’t lie, it’s like moving through molasses, reading his stuff.

BS-ing can be a very useful skill at times.

Will obama fix the economy?

^Not completely. Partially though (I hope). I mean, can the economy ever be “fixed”? People won’t agree on what economy is best, so I don’t think the answer couple possibly be “yes.”

Lol, agreed 100%
