Ugh. So here’s my situation. Procrastination did a big bite in the BUTT for me. Well first of all to lower my morale even further, I got rejected from DAVIS TAG this morning, then I also had a 100 point presentation due tomorrow that I procrastinated on as well as a 100 point 2 page research paper that I haven not started research for. This is for the same class and right now I have an 83%. The class is out of 600 so a lot is on the line tomorrow. Realistically if I DO THE work It won’t be the best work but in the end I will probably end up with a C.

My other option is DROP the class… I don’t necessarily want to do that because I am already a part time student (10 units atm) since I was staying under a unit limit for TAG(which I no longer have to worry about). If I drop the class I will also get my second W in my transcript and will end up with 6 quarter units this quarter. I reported in my TAG that I was gonna be a part time student to stay under the limit, and since the TAG response came in the middle of the Fall Quarter i was thinking that I can use the excuse of staying under a unit limit for having not that many units for FALL then take full time units during winter and spring. but I’m not sure they’ll notice the difference or not for the 10 units reported in the TAG compared to the 6 units that I’ll report if I drop the class and change the academic history list. (IS TAG AND UC APPLICATION COMPARED OR IS TAG DISMISSED AFTER THE DECISION IS GIVEN OUT) It’s also sort of a pride thing. I’m ambitious, I just don’t have proper study skills and I procrastinate too much. I’m a good student in school but after I get out I’m unmotivated. I don’t want to go from low amount of units to LOWER… IF I DO DROP THE CLASS THOUGH I can get an A next quarter as opposed to a low C this quarter…

SO QUESTIONS
If I don’t drop I will be stressed, behind on work, and probably get a C

If I do drop, I will have another W, my academic history reported on UC APplication will differ from what I put on the TAG appliation but I can use the excuse of staying under a unit limit for taking small units on Fall then tell them since I wasn’t accepted by TAG I went back to being a fulltime student on Winter/Spring. Also, I can reatke the course next quarter for most likely an A since I will have seen the course before and I will hopefully be on top of things…

What’s weighing the decision is WHAT WILL BE THE EFFECT OF DROPPING THIS CLASS THIS QUARTER. I MEAN, IM ALREADY PART TIME. What do you guys think?

My friend thinks I should stay in the class, get the work I can get done tonight, because currently I have a 83.5% in the class and thinks that I can get a good grade in the class, and my response to that is that after tomorrow, if I rush the work, I feel that my grade won’t be so good anymore. What do you guys think? I beg you Thanks!

And you’re saying stay in the class, because Fall quarter is the quarter that counts and if they see a W on a person only taking 10 units going down to 6 units becuase of the drop, then they’ll probably weigh that heavily against me right?

No and yes. I’m saying it because since you are already almost done with the fall quarter might as well get the “C”. You can also make a BS excuse to your professor to give you more time on your power-point and research paper too, you know. Countless students always done this. Email her/him that you got really sick or etc; they’ll extend the deadline for you. What will your GPA drop to if you were to get a C?

I say stay in the class. Don’t get transferitus and let yourself get unmotivated, though believe me, I know it’s tough. I only work part-time, but I’m taking 17 units this semester and am going through a pretty tough break-up, so I know how easy it is to feel listless and unmotivated, but you gotta do it bro!! Believe in yourself and say, I can do this!! You also don’t want to start a habit of dropping classes when things get tough, unless you really need to. I’m sorry you didn’t get accepted by TAG, but don’t let it get you down. You can still get accepted and if you want to get accepted, you want to show them how hard you work at school.
you admitted that things are this way because of procrastination. Well, you found the problem, now MAKE YOURSELF stop procrastinating! Get off of CC and do those projects for your class! Good luck!

Thanks dracomalfoy, @Lawlking, calculated it and my CC GPA would remain the same. 3.25. Since I have no TAG to worry about I will now take other pre-req couses for UCI so that I will be completely done with their stuff by the time of transfer. I hope I dont get my hopes up just to be rejected like what happened with the TAG… :-\ I’ll try to stay positive. Thanks guys.

Stay in the class presentations are not difficult so that should be an easy 100 points. Your at a 83.3 and thinking about dropping when you can get 100% on these assignments and maybe get an A?

stay in the class. I know you can do it. I personally don’t know you, but I still know you can do it. So just get it done. I was complaining about how long of an essay I had to write (16 pages)… But when I sat down and got to work, it was extremely simple. Just look at it as an obstacle in your way preventing you from succeeding. Get’er done…

i took a 4 unit poli sci class and WORKED MY ASS OFF. W -date came around and I saw that I would be getting a C at best. Decided to drop and take an easier instructor over the Summer. Ended up getting a C in the summer course anyway(!) wishing I would have stayed with the tough instructor and one less W on my transcript.

lol actually Salmos, I decided to stay, I had previously e-mailed the teacher and I also talked to her in class the day of. She understood my situation but I still stayed up the entire night (the night I made this thread) to finish my presentation and 2 page paper. As far as presentation goes, I don’t really remember how it went since I was running on just a 5-hour energy and mostly read off the paper =\ my partner said I did really well though and the information came out clean (despite lots of UMs which most people can’t prevent).

Anyways, all in all, I stayed in the class and the teacher said she’ll help me as much as she can with the final Term paper which is all we have left.

BTW I find it funny how my teacher made the presentation, the 2 page report, and the 15 page term paper all worth equal points. V_V

Well I’ll be damned, good for you. Those are good signs.

I envy any ability to at least get through a presentation without much preparation. People are always telling me I’m good at them but that’s b/c I have to practice. Useless at improvising.

Anyway, good for you TaLL and I’m sure you’ll feel relieved you didn’t drop it once the quarter is over.
