After watching this and some other boards I finally am going to speak up.

I appreciate my parents being involved with

my education, as contrary to some alumni I am here for an education first and foremost. Boat U : The Undergraduate College of the Naval Service

I appreciate that my parents want to be informed of things I do. I am one of those who call home frequently - not because I am some sort of wimp but because I really do enjoy my family. Without my family I would not be here or be the person I am.

I appreciate that my Parents support the US Naval Academy Foundation - yes that is where a portion of what would have been my college fund is going (I hope they are saving some for Grad school… if I chose to go that route without support from the US Navy.) The Foundation support the activities that we are all exposed to. I have been taught to give back to my community, what a great way for my parents to thank the academy for giving me the honor of attending.

I saw this on the “otherforum”

The interesting thing is I am having a great “college” experience, and am involved with the items that the study suggests: undergraduate research, had an internship last summer as part of Summer Training (hope that those opportunities do not disappear for more time in the fleet) I am a Div II major but taking a foreign language for the past two years and will continue next year as learning a language and culture is a necessity in todays global world. Hope First Duty assignment is overseas. will be doing a capstone project as part of an honor degree and most of all I communicate with my parents and seek their opinion - don’t always agree and will sometimes respectfully disagree.

This is a great Institution, a great college, and good leadership training. The direction of the current Administration with cutting off the involvement of our parents is not good leadership. Most of my friends will agree. I come from a Navy family - the fleet always supported my family - even my Commander Dad! Not sure why the current Supe feels the way he does. Can only use my imagination…

Anyway just a current mids experience.
