I respectfully disagree with chocolatecricket…your GPA/SAT don’t really mean a damn (by all means, don’t disregard them), but what’s more important is how hard you try in the classes that you take. If you take the hardest course list that YOU (and not the local Mensa superfreakgenius, no offense to them) can handle, even if you only get 80s in every one, you can honestly go the the college of your choice and say that while yes, you don’t have a 4.0 GPA, you have a legion of teachers and counselors behind you that will vouch for your abilities as a person, not a scholastic machine.

That said, I’ve got two other pieces of advice (although I have the feeling that you may or may not ignore one of them…no matter, you should hear it):

1) Be well-rounded. You’re gonna hear every college under the sky say that, and what’s funny is that it’s…well…true. You’re not going to be able to balance a half-dozen high level classes IN ADDITION TO a varsity/JV sport AS WELL AS the leader of the school’s student government. Pick and choose what YOU want to do, not what you think some college counselor is gonna want to see. Be true to yourself (as sappy as that sounds), and enjoy high school.

2) While I know this is probably going to fall on deaf ears, please do try to remember that you’re going into your SOPHOMORE year of high school. I can assure you that you have lots of time to work on your resume, as well as to flesh out your plans for the future. I commend you for starting the college search process this early; that said, if you proceed to drive yourself nuts by posting weekly/monthly/bi-monthly/quarterly/semi-annual/annual requests to get “chanced” on a certain school, one of two things will happen…you’ll either enter into psychiatric care at the ripe old age of 14/15/16, or you’ll spend the next three or so years as a miserable example of how the college search process can ruin the best of us. Enjoy the next two years - go to dances, spend time with friends, get into some (minor) trouble…the last part is essential to having a good time - a little scare every now and then from the authority is definitely a good thing…keeps you sharp :D

Lastly, you’re not helpless, your actually very forward thinking and obviously you have a healthy dose of motivation…just don’t overdose on it. If you really feel the need to get some help with the whole college search process, talk to your counselor (another cliche, I know, but cliches are what they are for good reasons), or if you believe he/she to be a narrow-minded twit with no chance of rehabilitation, check out [url=http://www.collegeboard.com]College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool/url or one of the other similar websites. Again, enjoy the next year and THEN you can start worrying about colleges…remember, you can start looking at colleges anytime in the next three years, but you can never re-do a moment spent looking. Make 'em count! :)
