Help a student

Hi everyone I a in a bind because I am not sure what my major should be. ALthough I am a junior, I am still thinking about majors for college. My passion is business so I was thinking about doing Finance, however I want to do Industrial Engineering as well. I am an entrepreneur, and I ultimately want to become the CEO of a business. What is the best route for me?

Also I am a junior at the best high school in Kansas. I have a 3.53 GPA unweighted however I have a 4.1 GPA weighted. I have over 1700 hours of community service, Varsity tennis for 3 years, FBLA national qualifier (president of club at school), DECA International Qualifier( vp of club at school) , Orchestra 4 years, president of Orchestra club, All district all state 3 years in a row, 1’s at State solo and ensemble festival, and I am the CEO of a startup. My SAT score is a 2150 (based on PSAT) and I am potential National Merit. Im hoping to get my SAT to a 2300+. My schools that I am looking at are, Duke, USC, UNC, Ut austin, Michigan, UIUC, Penn, purdue, illinois, tufts, Tulane, Emory, and Gtech. Emory and gtech have this 5 year program where you can get a bs in finance, and a bs in industrial engineering. What are my chances at these schools. I will chance any one back! just respond and post the link to your thread! Thanks So much! I truly appreciate it!

I will chance back ANYONE that chances me. I really need your advice! Im also looking at BU.

Duke and Emory - reach because of GPA

all others are match → its hard to tell without a definite sat score, but your ec’s will set you apart the most so make sure you put an emphasis on this in your apps

So im in at UT austin, and USC? those are my dream schools honestly.

again, that depends on your major. i know from my personal research that UT austin is a very good pharm/engineering school and same with usc. you might not be garunteed “in” but its definitley a high match for you

So when i apply, do I have to say my preferred major? so lets say UTs most competitive program is engineering. Could I say be major is classical studies and then transfer in after im admitted?

I’ve heard that at some universities, it’s hard to switch majors between different schools (like especially Columbia’s engineering school, I think); maybe check UT Austin’s site to find out about that?

But I think you could get into UT and USC and Gtech.

Emory, Duke, and Penn (University of Pennsylvania?) would be reaches, like Dinomite said above.

But looking at your ECs, who knows? It could work out. =)

I’m really hoping so! I do a lot f work outside of school, and I’m really passionate about what I do! Hopefully it all pays off!

Anyone else? Bump bump

Bump bump bump

my passion is business. Im a CEO.

Kansas is underrepresented at many of these schools, so you stand a fairly good chance from that respect.

Duke and Penn- high reach
Emory, Tufts- low-mid reach
USC- low reach
UNC- high match
UMich- high match
Tulane- match
UT Austin- match
UIUC- in
Illinois- in
Purdue- ???
GA Tech- ???

Awesome thanks! What would you say I should do to improve my chances?

raise that gpa!

I agree raise your GPA, but i am significantly impressed.

Bump Bump BUmp
