help a troubled teen :(

I am a sophomore in an American international school in Asia
and I’d love to go to Columbia…
My SAT range is 2250-2400 and I’m going to take my first SAT in Oct.
I am thinking of majoring in Journalism…

The thing is, I suck at PE and music, which drastically shortens the possible extracurricular activities I can take… I have been the opinion column chief editor in my journalism club as a freshman and am now the copy editor. Though I have not yet had the opportunity or privilege to participate in the student council, I am a diligent student with all As… I am taking AP Biology for this year and will take more in coming years.
(Right now, I help out many of my fellow students in AP Biology)

The major question I want to ask you guys is:
Is it absolutely necessary to attend a PE-related or music-related club to go to a good school? Is anyone of you like me? (the studious one… I mean;)

Please help … :frowning: I am suffering from declining self-confidence.

Just to give you an idea if I’m “like you”: My ACT score is 34, which is equal to about 2300 SAT.
I’m not in sports and I don’t play instruments in a band, yet I still participate in my school’s GSA and I volunteer at a hospital and with an exchange program organization. There are plenty of things you can do that aren’t PE- or music-related. :stuck_out_tongue:
Get involved somehow!

oh yeah I forgot to say that I am the head of the NHS; I’m planning to set up a debate team on Saturdays as a kind of a Saturday school hehe

wow. Thank you for sharing my concern :D

can a current Columbia student help me out? :frowning: in dire need of suggestions and recommendations

Ok, so I was not part of any PE club or any music club, but it is good to be involved in clubs in general! For example, being in something like NHS is good. I was also involved in drama from my school. As long as you are really passionate about your extracurriculars then that’s all that really matters.

OMG thank you so much vikramcpo!!

seriously, I think I do get some boosts of confidence in CC.
You’ve saved me from depression hehe

It was just that I really wanted to show my potentials but didn’t want to do a rather fraudulent extracurriculur activity just because I knew the colleges would love it.

Thank you so much once again. Good luck with your university life!
