1st day of senior year was today. I have not started any apps yet but I plan to very soon. Here is some info about me:
-White male from Los Angeles suburb.
-Go to a private high school in LA
- 3.6 GPA (3.72 weighted)
-2 years varsity varsity water polo/swimming(will not compete in college)
- ASB camus rep
- Huge fan of edm music. I spend way too much going to festivals and concerts

I am looking for a solid school with a good party scene. I love going to concerts so being near a big city (90 minute drive or less) would be a plus While prestige is also plus, I DO NOT care about rankings. I am confident that I will receive a solid undergraduate education no matter where I go as long as I apply myself. My major is undecided.
My current list:
UCLA, UCSB, USC, San Diego State, Tulane, Lehigh, Miami University(oxford), Syracuse, Wisconsin Madison, Oregon

What would be the best fit?

good list of party schools, but it’s hard to tell much without an SAT or ACT.

have you run the net price calculators? what have your parents said about the EFCs?

Seems like OP’s family has deep pockets

I would remove Lehigh from your list if I were you. They do have a music festival, but there isn’t all that much for a city boy to do in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Sorry I forgot to list my SAT: 1870(super score) I’m retaking it in October, I think somewhere between 1910-1930 is a reasonable goal. The ACT really didn’t go well for me for some reason and I don’t want to take it again.

I also forgot to mention that I’m a legacy at Cornell and have been thinking about applying although I doubt I have a shot.

let’s see, party/Cornell, Cornell/party, okay. you/party/Cornell, NO. Forget about it. You’re not a grind. The kids that are partying at Cornell are mainlining red bull with their depth charges and had an IQ of 148 before they went to Cornell. That’s not you.

as for Lehigh, it’s 90 minutes to NYC and 90 to Philly, but AB is correct that Bethlehem has been quiet since the decline of American steel and the failure of what had been the second-largest steel manufacturer in the US, Bethlehem Steel. When I went to school nearby in the 70s, profs used to take classes into philly and nyc to see plays, and a couple times a year we saw concerts in one or the other.

UCLA’s probably a reach for you with those stats. Tulane is a reach, but not impossible. What about Clemson? I know several students who love it there for all the criteria you mentioned: lots of partying, school spirit, etc.

University of Miami
CU Boulder (safety and IMO much better than UO in terms of academics and surrounding campus town)
University of Washington - Seattle
University of Puget Sound (safety)
Macalester
Loyola Marymount (safety)
Emory (reach)

Even tho you attend a private high and go to concerts, you STILL need to ask your parents how much they will spend each year on college. (My kids went to private K-12 and that did not mean their classmates had carte blanche when choosing colleges.)

LMU is not a safety if the parents won’t pay $50k+ per year…neither are any of the other schools if the parents won’t pay for them.

Ask your parents how much they’ll pay each year, and then we can really help you.

If you like skiing, maybe U. of Denver is an option. I’m presuming that your family can somehow work out the finances, on the belief that you have already taken that into consideration. I differ from many adults on this site in my belief that your financial assets and priorities are your business, not mine, and you would mention financial need if it were a paramount concern. I’d also look into Lewis & Clark (possibly a bit of a reach), UC Santa Cruz, U of AZ, ASU, U. of Miami, and College of Charleston.

In addition to cost considerations and SAT/ACT scores, your intended or possible major may affect whether some schools (including UCs and CSUs) are reach/match/safety.

Miami University (Oxford) sounds like a good match. If you visit, you might as well check out Ohio State University and Ohio University (Athens).

Indiana University (Bloomington) also seems like a good fit.
