Help an indecisive NJ girl choose where to go for college

Here’s my opinion…Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Cornell sounds good now, but the average college student changes their major at least twice before settling on something to study. As students mature, they find where their passions really are. You might find you like business or even computers. Choose a school that’s a good fit for you and go in with an open mind. Explore what you like. And keep it affordable. If you have to take out a mountain of debt to go there, it’s not worth it.

Yeah, personally I think it is often better to “choose the college and not the major”. Of course if you have some ideas about in which major you might want to start, you can try to make sure the college has that major. But I always get nervous when kids seem to be picking a college for a specific major, at least if that is a college that they might not still be excited about if they decide to do something entirely different.

Our middle daughter could have attended Berkeley but chose Davis. She wanted to be in a place where collaboration, among students, was the norm.
She loved her time there!

A number of her high school (and tennis partners) attended Berkeley.

Guess where they went on weekends to get away from Berkeley and study? They came to visit her at Davis.
(After she moved out from the dorms and into a townhouse, they came MORE frequently!)
