Help - another airline dilemma tonight

I am soooo frustrated and disappointed. This weekend we are having D2’s graduation party, and D1 is coming in from Boston. To surprise D2, we booked a flight for her best friend from college to come in, also. D2 has no idea that she’s coming. D1 and D2’s friend were scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee ten minutes apart tonight, and depart a minute apart on Monday night.

However, due to weather in the NYC area, friend’s flight has been cancelled. There is one remaining flight to Milwaukee tonight, which will arrive at 1:06AM, and she’s in line to see if she can get booked on it. When I looked at Frontier’s schedule, they have NO flights tomorrow to Milwaukee, so if Frontier doesn’t get her on the flight tonight, they can’t get her here until Sunday, which is when the party is, and then she’d have to turn around and leave Monday. I’ve been texting with her, telling her when she gets to the gate agent, to explain the situation, and to see if they’ll put her on any flight that will get her in the Milwaukee or Chicago area tonight, even if that means I have to pay cab fare to get her to Newark or JFK.

I can’t believe with no flights offered at all tomorrow, they would strand these passengers at LGA. Can anyone think of anything else to try? Oh, since I booked the flight with my credit card, I called the Frontier reservations to see if they’d let me re-book her, but they said since she’s at the airport, she has to do it with a gate agent there.

Have her mention Rule 240 which says that Frontier must put her on another carrier with which they have an agreement (most legacy airlines, but not Southwest) if the other airline’s flight(s) arrive earlier.

I didn’t think rule 260 applied to weather-related delays.

Teri - I know my story is not going to help you. D2 was flying from outside of US to Ithaca for D1’s graduation. Her connection flight from EWR to Ithaca was cancelled that night due to weather, and it was their last flight. The next flight they could put her on was Sun, which was the graduation day. Continental wouldn’t even help her getting a hotel room and she was only 17. They told us that the airport was open 24 hours and it was perfectly safe (for 48 hours). We had to find a hotel room for her, and H drove 4 hours that night to pick her up and drove straight back to Ithaca. Nowadays, airlines do nothing for its passengers.

I am sorry about your situation because I could definitely relate. Hope she gets a seat.

oldfort - I remember your story and it DID work out in the end. But I’m not driving to NYC to retrieve D’s friend. She should be first in line about now.

The possibly good news is that the last flight out, is now scheduled to leave a bit earlier, arriving in Milwaukee at 11:46PM, as opposed to 1:06AM. Its original departure time was 7:21.

Fingers crossed and hoping all works out in the end. Love the surprise idea!

So she has boarding passes for both standby tonight and a flight at 6AM. She was told the flight tonight will be boarding in an hour, and a lot of people have not checked in. I suspect some of them were passengers on connecting flights who never made it to LGA. So we’ll know in about an hour. I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time texting someone in such a short amount of time!

Yea, and the last time I went to the Milwaukee airport on a Saturday morning before 8AM to pick someone up, was three weeks ago, the morning after H had his bike accident, and I had to pick D2 up because he couldn’t.

Karen Colleges - this surprise has been the logistical nightmare. About a week ago, I found out D2 made plans for tonight to go down to the city with some friends to see the Conan O’Brien movie. So I had to secretly steal the friends’ contact information from D2’s phone and fill them in on the surprise, and ask them to cancel their plans without raising suspicions. Then, D2 found out she couldn’t go into the city because she has rehearsal tonight for a show she’s doing with other alumni from her high school. So friend and I were really looking forward to surprising her while she was on stage rehearsing, since they met each other through the theatre program at their college. Now I just want her to get here tonight.

Good luck to you. We live in the NYC area and the weather has been terrible tonight so it’s no surprise that there are many flight delays/cancellations. If you have any more problems, try flyersrights.org. They have a hotline to help those who are stranded by airlines 1-877-FLYERS6. I have never called it, but I keep the number in my phone just in case I run into a problem while traveling.

Good luck!! Hope you can pull it off!

Fingers crossed here too, teri - did she get off standby?

On my way to the Milwaukee airport now!!

Have a great weekend.

Hope the surprise goes well!

Classic!

Mission accomplished.

YIPPEE!! Love happy surprises, tho I don’t like planning them because they are fraught with such challenges!

Let us know how the surprose went!!

I was glad to get to the end and see that she made it! Have a wonderful party!!!

Have a great party!

Note: Rule 240 does not apply to delays due to weather. I had misread your post.
