HELP: Are there any products for curly hair AS GOOD AS Aveda.....but less expensive?

I don’t care if the the OP has not checked back in. This thread has some good recommendations. I just ordered the Pravana that someone mentioned upthread. I love anything that uses more natural ingredients.

My daughter and I like this line. The grocery store had it on sale for $7.00 for 8oz.
My daughter has pretty long and thick, not curly but fairly wavy hair.

@emilybee The folks at the salon told D before they started cutting that her hair may be uneven if she blows it outf or flat irons it…but she rarely (ie maybe 3 or 4 times a year) does that. Since they cut her hair, she uses no product other than shampoo/conditioner. I nag at her to do a deep conditioning when she is home. She has very fine, dry hair. The curl was uneven before the Ouidad cut, it’s really nice and evenly curly now. Love it. She had it cut again before she left for a summer abroad program. So, once a year or so.
I don’t want to wear my hair curly all the time, so I have it cut to blow dry, and just deal with the uneven nature of the curls when I wear it curly.
I tried the Argan Oil, it didn’t work for me. Just too heavy and I did not like the scent. I am making some notes about some of the other products mentioned, I might go back to wearing it curly…

Curly here, too.

I think EK4 meant to have the above link.

I usually use Wen which is a no-shampoo method. Sally’s Beauty Supply stores also sell their own (much cheaper) version of Wen products. I have tried the Sally versions and they are fine, but I have to mix their curly version with the colored hair version because the curly version has toooo much Argon oil in it, so if I use that alone then my hair is left oily. So, using a bit of curly version and a bit of of colored hair version seems to work…as long as you WELL RINSE.

@Mom2M, I don’t have Ouidad cut anymore. That was 7 or so years ago. My neighbor is a stylist and trained at Ouidad. She had me put in a serum type Ouidad product when my hair was wet. Then I had a mist to revive the curl in the morning. I have very fine hair but tons of it and it is also frizzy.

I grew out the Ouidad cut as I really prefer my hair straight. Now I just use the JF hair serum, blow it out and flat iron and the use just a dab of Juvexin oil. I also only wash my hair once a week because it is so dry. My hair actually looks better the longer I wait between washes.

Thanks, @emilybee, I’ll mention the serum and mist to D. Maybe she should give it a try.

@Mom2M, these are the products she had me use:

I used this when hair was wet:

Then after it was dry:

And in the morning to revive my curl:

Thanks for all the recommendations – Finding some new products for my curly hair has been on my to-do list all summer. Lately, I’ve been dying it, and decided to go with more blonde in order to cover my grey and my hair is SO dry I’m afraid to wash it at all. That, combined with lots of swimming in our pool, has really done a number on my hair. We use a lot of argan oil in my house (daughters also have long curly hair) but I’m going to break down and get some Ouidad products to see what happens. Wish me luck! (also been meaning to try that Wen stuff – but it’s SO expensive!)

another vote for the John Freda products - my curly haired daughter loves them

I’m surprised other like the Suave Naturals. I was also surprised it said it’s comparable to Aveda. I started using it because it was given to me. I found it to be better than the more expensive brands that I’ve used. It’s pretty cheap, too! $5 for both shampoo AND conditioner! The oil I use for my hair isn’t even as cheap as that. It’s affordability is foreign to me, but I love it. My hair really likes conditioners with shea butter in it so I use a shea butter conditioner and leave in conditioner.

I found that some who use oils for their hair incorrectly use it. I was talking to a girl who said her hair hates oil and that is leaves her hair dry and stringy. Turns out she didn’t moisturize her hair before hand! Oil is a SEALANT. If you’re using oil before moisturizing or on freshly washed hair, you’re locking out your hair’s chance at being moisturized!

Niquii-my hairdresser sister clued me in about Suave years ago. This new line is fantastic-my mixed D loves it for her very thick, very dry, very coarse hair better than some very expensive products, and I’m seeing a great result with my thin, fine, curly hair. I have this balding spot on my scalp and I noticed yesterday it looked more covered. I’m not growing more hair-it’s just that the shampoo/conditioner has my hair more full and thick looking. Yet D’s hair isn’t out of control or anything. I’ll take it for $2 a bottle!
