My DD has curly hair that tends to frizz and has found Aveda products to be outstanding. They can be applied repeatedly and never have leave any residue or white pieces in the hair. However, Aveda has gone up in price ridiculously and we are in search of a comparable product that is reasonably priced.

My DD uses:
damage remedy shampoo and conditioner
brilliant retexturizing gel
be curly enhancer
be curly style prep smoother
smooth infusion

Does anyone have experience with products that work as well for much less in price?

My D with curly hair and limited budget likes some of the Garnier Fructis curl products: Curl Construct Mousse and Curl Scrunch Gel are two she uses.

I have short curly hair. I use some of the Garnier products although i don’t like the shampoos. I se the serum (forget what’s it’s called), the Curl scrunch gel and the curl hairspray.

We are curly here too and have used some of the same as EPTR. I don’t know if they have Aveda, but TJMAXX has LOTS of hair products at better prices. If you are in a TJ, I’d check out that section.

I also like some of the Moroccan products with Argon (?). I have a cream I got at TJ that my girls hoard. I put it on after towel drying.

I have always wondered about the expensive hair care lines like Kerastase. I am happy to pay for a product that makes a difference but am reluctant to pay $50 for shampoo with no noticeable difference. Anyone have experience with these lines?

I have heard that the "go to " line for curly hair is Ouidad. I have no personal experience with it but friends use it with great results. Not too expensive either - think online you can get the products in the $20 - $35 range.

This may seem crazy but DD and I have been very happy with the Suave Natural Infusion Awapuhi Anti-Breakage Shampoo & Conditioner. It says it’s “proven” to be as good as salon formulas and I believe it.They also have a smoothing Keratin one. Neither of us put lots of other product in our hair but I have been happy with Herbal Essences Totally Twisted curl mousse. It beats the more expensive stuff and isn’t as heavy as the Garnier. I have really thin hair and Garnier overpowers it.

Shea Moisture products and coconut oil are all I put in my curly hair. All natural, no sulfates or silicones and they are cheap. You can find them at Target. The shampoo costs $10 and lasts forever. For curly hair, I feel it’s important to use sulfate and silicone free products as it tends to be drier and damages easier.

Quest, I use aveda shampoo…not always but from time to time. I find that a bottle of aveda lasts a LOT longer than most any other kind of shampoo. I think it is well worth the money.

What is your price point on this? You won’t find an equivalent for $2 a bottle.

How much are you spending on your aveda? Last time I bought a bottle it was under $20.

I use Aveda products, did your hairdresser tell you that you only need to wash every 3 days or so? If you wash your hair twice rinse lather repeat, you will not need to wash every day. I didn’t believe it but its true. do you need every product, I use be curly and its fine. However I have wavy hair that is on the thinner side. My hair came in curly after chemo and has stayed that way since.

Funny, my hairdresser is the one who told me about Suave years ago. I’ve gone with any number of products over the years and the new Suave Professionals is better than any I’ve used in a long time, INCLUDING expensive salon stuff. But downtoearth, if I didn’t wash mine every day I’m sure people would avoid me-those night sweats reach all the way up into my scalp and I’m a bit ripe some mornings! But if someone can get away with it, more power to them.

D and I both have curly hair.I’ve gone back to blow drying most of the curl out, she wears hers curly. She gets hers cut at Ouidad, they do an amazing job about once a year. Since she started getting her very fine, curly hair properly cut, she doesn’t use much of anything but shampoo and conditioner. She uses Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo and Big Sexy Curly Hair conditioner. I buy the shampoo at CVS, usually with a coupon and the conditioner either at TJMAXX or Ultra. Ultra can be a great deal when they have coupons.

D just tried a sample of this and loved it. Even her friends commented on the better tamed look and D loved the softness. Believe it or not: Advanced Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield, by Avon. Some reviews say you use very little. I suppose one can experiment. No idea if there’s anything “natural” about this product.

I had the Ouidad cut a few years ago but got tired pretty quickly of wearing my hair curly. Plus, it requires too much product.

I use John Frieda Hair Serum on wet hair, then blow it dry and flat iron it. The serum is maybe $8 and lasts a long time since you don’t use very much.

The Avon is $12 or so.
I find the John Frieda Frizz Ease a bit heavy and sticky but like Christophe (professional) Extra Strength Hair Serum. It’s lighter and works for me. I see it online around $11, also lasts forever. I don’t have curly- just unmanageable wild, wavy and frizz, if left completely to nature.

In comparison, Aveda Smooth Infusion alone is $23 up, depending on the store.
