Help: C+, B-, B+

At the end of 6 semesters, I have 1 C+(general statistics), 1 B-(general chem), and 1 B+, with the rest all A’s. My overall GPA at Berkeley is around 3.81 with science GPA of around 3.7. Given that I have research, volunteering, internships, and a few other activities on my resume, do I really stand with a chance at top medical schools, such as Harvard, JHU, etc.? It’s just that those three grades listed above (all freshman year first semester) seem to kill my chances… err

While I think you’re alive and kicking at most of the top ten, it would seem to me that the two specific schools you mentioned are out of the running. (I was not even granted interviews with one C+ and one B.)

I should mention that it is of course impossible for me to discuss your situation without a better understanding of your EC’s, application process (i.e. timing) and MCAT score. But I don’t think your grades will keep you out of other schools.

Kubinec for General Chem? Or Pines?

the only other thing i would question is your courseload. It seems to me to pull your GPA down that much over 6 semesters with only 3 grades below an A you must only have been taking 4 courses a semester; whether that’s a high or low load of course depends on your school (at mine it would be considered low). If the load is low compared to that taken by other students at your school, it could hurt you in admissions, even with your high overall GPA.

To affirm everything PSAS just said:

At my school, that would be considered normal. We were always advised to spend at least a couple of semesters overloading.
