just sent out apps today

I think you may have waited a bit too long. I’d say it’s a toss-up

not only that, but I think your SAT scores are far too low for an OOS applicant

is english not your first language? because that 470 is something else.

…is that 470 accurate…not a typo (i.e its not supposed to be a 740). It doesn’t seem right…you got a 670 on the SATII for history, and your writing was a 610…a 470 Reading doesn’t seem right. If that is accurate…that’s way below what UM would be looking for, especially for OOS applicants.

no, unfortunately, that 470 wasn’t a typo.
i moved to US two years ago…that 470 is the most significant weakness on my apps…
it’s just weird, i don’t really have a big problem in english, i got a 4 on APUSH…but i just can’t do the SAT I…
-___-
since i m a permanent resident, i m exempt from TOEFL.
do u guys think i should take TOEFL anyways so that i have a chance doing the appeal?

I think u should immediately take toefl even though u are a permanent resident especailly b/c not only Eng isn’t ur first language but also u got a low score on reading but since it’s been only 2yrs since u came to the u.s, they will consider that…but i recommend u to score over 250(cbt)

provided u blow them out of the water with ur essay…ur gonna be deferred

I don’t usually respond to “chances” threads unless I think other respondents are missing something. Female in engineering gives you a boost. However, I’d imagine that due to the verbal score, application readers will be looking closely for evidence that language won’t be a barrier.

Hmm…I see now. There are special circumstances, and i don’t know the ins and outs of ESL admissions…so disregard my earlier two cents.

thanks for everyone who responded, i will take the advice and take toefl in jan.
btw, the teacher who wrote my rec taught me AP Calc and AP stats, two years in a row…she’s an alumn as well. i hope her rec would help.
