HELP!! Cornell Rawlings Scholar (with state tuition) vs. Vanderbilt University

I was recently accepted into Cornell University CALS with reduced state tuition as well as Vanderbilt University. I plan on majoring in some form of applied math/economics however, at CALS I did not apply as an AEM major and am unsure how difficult it will be to apply to change my major to AEM or double major. Having the state tuition plus the Rawling’s scholar at Cornell reduces my cost of attendance by almost 70k over the 4 years. However, Vanderbilt has a very nice location and the city of Nashville is very nice. Also the smaller class size is preferable to me.

Any advice would be appreciated. Is it easy to change majors at CALS/apply for double? Does Vanderbilt have as good connections with wall street? Does Vanderbilt have as much of an international presence as Cornell?

How much does that 70k difference matter to your family? Is it pocket change, or is it serious money?

If it is serious money, and the aid makes Cornell affordable, then go there. Contact CALS, and ask them about switching majors.

While the finances are not a big concern it is a generous amount of money as well as the opportunities that are created by being a Rawlings scholar. I suppose I’m looking for the best applied math program and good alumni connections in business and finance .

Unless you vastly prefer the location and vibe of Vanderbilt and the money is not a big deal, I think Cornell is the better choice here.

CALS has this major (look at some jobs grads end up in): https://admissions.cals.cornell.edu/academics/majors/biometry-and-statistics/

Cornell also has a much bigger network and presence on the Street.

I personally think Cornell is definitely the better option given your goals and the costs.
