@Sue22 The op did mention that the private day schools around are not good. It’s true we can not say whether this is the case or not but that is why I recommended to dig a little deeper into them. The op could be right that these schools are not good but from my personal experience which I explained above, people tend to make these evaluations based on superficial/incorrect knowledge. I don’t think anyone was suggesting that the op go behind the father’s back. My suggestion was for the op to keep an open mind and really research what opportunities are out there both locally and further afield. Why limit oneself to a particular set of schools especially as based on op’s words, the desire for boarding school seems to have arisen a long time ago and may be driven more by childhood dreams rather looking for schools that match op’s interests?
@mssweeteaa you are very articulate and very thoughtful, and I have no doubt that you will do well whereever you end up for high school. Good luck to you.
It’s not even possible to submit the CDB behind the parent’s back. No one suggested that.
These are two separate decisions: One can apply for the CDB scholarship and even get it… and still decide a year from now NOT to attend boarding school, after all. No need to push for a definitive answer or commitment now.
@mssweeteaa Oh and yes I agree with other posters here. You will do great wherever you end up for high school. Good luck to you and I really wish your family well. Everyone on the front lines like your dad are heroes to us all!
OP, you mentioned that your Dad is from Nigeria and was thinking that you might not need BS to succeed. Perhaps, he is just being honest with what he is thinking. We thought long and hard about public vs. private vs. boarding etc for our kids. We also thought about all of the ramifications. And we spoke to our oldest about all of the decision making factors. Yes, it’s possible to do amazing things coming from any school. Whether BS is right for you and your family is something you might have to take some time to consider.
