Help - DS checked "no" for teacher rec waiver

I just found out that DS checked “no”, he does not waive his right to read his teacher recs after matriculation. None of his teachers or counselor advised him to check “yes.” He just figured that if he had a legal right to see them, then he wanted to preserve his right.

He has a great relationship with all the teachers he asked for recs. In fact, most of his teachers let him see the recs anyway.

Will this affect his chances for admission to top schools?

I forgot to check anything on mine.

Of course it will leave an impression with the adcoms. If you wanted to know what your neighbors think about your son, which would be a more credible source? Signed letters from each neighbor, or an collection of comments that are anonymous?

Or to put it another way, if it didn’t matter why would they have the option in the first place? Why do you think colleges don’t solicit all their recs with the author expecting the student will later have access to it?

I don’t think it matters. I got into Chicago and checked no on every form.
