Help - ED1 or ED2 or EA or all 3?

He can only apply ED2 to the second school if he is denied or deferred at the ED school. So the ED2 application will have to wait until he get his ED decision in December.

Can he not apply to both and withdraw the ED2 app if accepted at first choice? Just wondering what happens if the ED1 announcement date comes out after the ED2 application deadline. Not seeing how this is necessarily different from pulling all the other apps once getting first ED decision.
