As I was writing down my info and courses to register the summer session, FSSP specifically, theres a column that asks to choose “letter grade, P/NP/ audit”. what does it mean?

Your grade if you got one or pass or not pass or audit. Audit means you sat in on the class without getting a grade or credit. You probably don’t know the terms other than grade because you have not taken a class for anything other than a letter grade. Some colleges offer classes pass/fail (not pass). Hope that is what you are looking for.

To enlarge on what MD Mom said, if you’re register for courses, you can opt to take them for a letter grade (A-F), P/NP (meaning you get credit for the course with a “Pass,” but it won’t impact your GPA), or Audit (meaning you’re just sitting in on the class, not taking it for credit).

Hm…Thanks guys. Appreciate your help.
BTW, could we change the “letter grade, P/NP/ audit” thing if class have already started, for personal situational reasons(i.e bad grade, bad teacher, etc)? Assuming you cant drop the class.
(sry if the question sounds wordy)

Here are the Summer Session deadlines. FSSP takes place in Session II:

depends on the school, so you have to specifically check with the school that offers that class when you can do pass/ no pass. also i dno for other majors, but for bio majors all of the classes that you need to get a bio degree have to be taken for a grade.

The official rules about grading at UCI are in the catalog.

Changing the grading basis from P/NP to letter or vice-versa is easy during the first two weeks of the quarter. After that, it depends. Some schools require both the professor’s signature and permission of the Dean to make a change after the first two weeks. None allow changes after the last day of instruction.

Here’s an executive summary of P/NP grading.
- All major classes must be taken for letter grades, including those in other departments that are required for your major. Plan ahead.
- You may not (usually) take more than one course/quarter P/NP.

The main exceptions to these two rules are classes that are offered P/NP only

If you fail to pass a class taken for a letter grade, you may not repeat it P/NP.
A grade of NP may be repeated either P/NP or for a letter grade.

A grade of P will not meet some prerequisites.

P/NP grades are not used in calculating GPA
