Help Finding A New Down Comforter

My wife just ordered and received a twin size one that she will put inside a duvet cover from costco.com.

If you don’t like the way a Costco item “performs”, simply return it.

On-line. Make sure to get the weight that you personally prefer.
I was not smart enough and decided the heavier, the better. Oh, well, not many can sleep under pillow (basically that is how it feels, way too thick). However, some might like it. My suggestion is to compare the weights and think hard which one you would like.

…yes, I always use duvets on our comforters. I make them myself from 2 flat sheets, we do not use flat sheets, they are wasted otherwise. Duvets might be more expansive than comforter itself, depending what you are buying and where.

I ordered one from downlite several years ago, and it was very nice, and it wasn’t too hot. I went with the Company Store for my son’s dorm comforter, because they have lots of colors. the one I currently use (son confiscated my old one) is Joseph Abboud, and although it’s made well, etc., it is a little on the warm side. I second the recommendation to order on the lighter weight side.

Another fan of Company Store…and a duvet. I made the mistake of getting each boy one when they graduated to a “big boy bed” and they absolutely can’t sleep with sheets and blankets anymore. They took their down comforters to college with them. I created “down comfortable loving monsters.” I put them outside on hot, dry summer days and they come out all fluffy and wonderful smelling. Wish we had sun in Michigan in the winter :-(

I bought mom a ‘down alternative’ comforter in august from overstock.com.

She is always cold and wanted something warm, not too heavy and washable. This fit the bill- she loves this comforter.

I have washed it twice and so far it has held up pretty good.

We have great down comforters from IKEA. Reasonably priced, and as long as you have one nearby, you get to look and touch. We’ve never had a problem with the filling bunching up.

My kids are still using their Company Store down comforters 20 years later; the one I bought for myself was actually much too warm and I have since given it away. I have a thinner one I got from BB&B on sale; one advantage of not having the baffles keeping the down in place is that you can then use the comforter nearly year round, since you can adjust the warmth with a few shakes. The other advantage of a duvet cover is that it will actually keep you warmer in the winter, as it prevents cold air from seeping in the seams of the baffles.

We bought our down comforters, pillows, and feather bed from Pacific Coast Feather Co. They’ve been in business for 125 years. They are the leading supplier of premium down pillows to leading hotels in the US. We’ve been extremely happy with ours. As far as I know, they don’t sell in stores. You have to buy from their web site (www.pacificcoast.com)

I have a Pacific Coast down comforter and two down pillows that I bought at Bed and Bath or somewhere ten years ago. They’ve been washed many times and have held up well. My only complaint is that the comforter is one of those with less down around the edges (in theory to concentrate it in the middle). It’s never really filled any of the duvet covers. I finally solved that problem by buying one of the LLBean duvet covers, but in a “full” size for the “queen” comforter. The comforter fills that nicely. I use it in the spring and fall when it’s time to put the heavy winter comforter up.

I have Pacific Coast down pillows I have purchased at Costco in the past, they are wonderful.

I bought a down comforter just like what you described maybe 4 years ago.
JC Penney, different colors available, baffle stitching, good down weight and amount of fill, microfiber feel on one side, a sheet feel on the other side. Not as heavy as the comforter on the parents’ bed, but great for the comforter on S bed. Came in F,Q,K. Cost was around $100 for a K. And yes, I wash ours at home.
