Help for my Friend...please, everyone read.

<p>My friend graduated early (3 yr high school, highest math: Algebra 2) and got back from vacation not too long ago. At first, his plans were to attend a local community college, Harper College.</p>

<p>Then, just now, I was informed that he is going to apply to DeVry University for “Biomedical Engineering.”</p>

<p>A quick search brought me to this:</p>

<p>Is this program the same thing as any other Biomedical Engineering programs, or are they tricking students with the added word “Technology”?</p>

<p>Are there any better alternatives for him?<br>
He doesn’t want to travel far, just within reach of home.</p>

<p>He lives near the city of Chicago, in the Northwest Suburbs (Schaumburg). </p>

<p>Details:
Early graduated
ACT score = 20
non-honors classes
mostly a’s and b’s.</p>

<p>Please, I’d like to know to fully aid him. </p>

<p>I would not recommend DeVry. They are “for profit” universities with “campuses” all over the country. They are not cheap. He would be better going to a local community college where he can learn a job skill and an AA degree and/or take academic classes that can be transferred to a 4 year college for a BS degree in a related or different field. In a couple of years, when he is more mature, he may have a different outlook and Commumity college will offer better options for him.</p>

<p>I’m not sure about what majors they have, but he could maybe go to UI Chicago? </p>

<p>Although, he really should consider retaking the ACT…</p>

<p>biomedical engineering technology is not quite as good as biomedical engineering. i would recommend going to the community college to get his AA and then go to a university to get his BS if he wants to get into engineering.</p>

<p>Tell him to make sure it’s ABET certified. If it is not then do not go there for a degree which has “engineering” in it.</p>
