HELP!! Here is my story!!!

Hey guys! I’m new here and this is my first thread! great forum! thanks.

So, here’s my story, I’ll try to make it short and simple:

-I received Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering back in 2004 from University of Technology/Baghdad/Iraq.

-I’m currently a permanent resident Green card holder, been in Georgia (and the States) for only Five months now coming from Iraq as a legal immigrant (I worked for 5 years as a civil engineer and a translator for the US Army Corps of Engineers, which put my life in serious risk due to my involvement with the US military there, so the US Governemnt decided that I need a new home and here I am!!)

-I’m planning to apply for GA Tech as transfer student for 2011 fall, problem is I don’t know where to start and how! Online information is really complicated and confusing, at least to me!

I know this might sound little bit complicated, but I would do whatever it takes to be a Civil Engineer again as my degree is currently not recognized in the States!!

Please Hellllllllllllllp!!!

This is whats on the gatech admissions website:

Georgia Tech defines a Second Undergraduate Degree applicant as one who has completed a bachelor’s degree from another accredited institution and who is seeking enrollment at Georgia Tech to obtain another undergraduate degree in a different major or field of study. A student may not apply or be accepted for a second undergraduate degree in the same or very closely related field of study. All admission requirements for students seeking a second undergraduate degree are the same as for regular transfer applicants, including specific courses, hours, and GPA by major.

I dont know if they will allow you into the civil engineering major but since you said your degree is not recognized here you may be able to go into the same field and obtain a degree from tech. I would contact an admission counselor and explain them your situation and go from there. If they let you apply into civil engineering you may be able to transfer some classes that you took back home. The deadline is oct 1 so you still have plenty of time.
This is what you will need after you apply:
Copy of perm resident card (faxed or mailed)
Evaluation of International credits( You need to get this from one of the organizations that tech accepts from)
Your Transcript from your old university mailed to them
Your bank statement/financial statement

If you need any more help with the application feel free to PM me i just filled mine out 2 weeks ago

You can post your question in ‘ask about transferring to gt’ and an admission counselor will respond tomorrow. If you dont want to post on the board then you can just contact a counselor.
