Help - Hopeless about College!

I’m thinking about possible colleges that I could apply to, and UNC - Chapel Hill is a HIGH PRIORITY on my list, as a matter of fact, it’s really the only school I want to go to. I know Chapel Hill is a very hard school to get into, so I was just wondering; do colleges look primarily at end-of-semester report cards or do they look at individual grades, projects, mid-term reports, etc. ?

Also, one other quick question - I plan to double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice. The only problem is, Carolina does not have a Criminal Justice program. Can you take online classes towards a major? If I couldn’t, then I am not too worried about that. I’m more for a Sociology major anyway.

If you could help me out, please help! Also, if you are a student at UNC Chapel Hill, ANY advice you have about that school would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

-I am a Freshman in a High School in North Carolina, so I’m in state! Is there anything else I can do to boost my chances of getting in to Chapel Hill?

Woah. A freshman.

I’m not quite sure how accurate College Board is, but I suppose it’s reliable. There’s a lot of information about different colleges there, and you can find information about UNC Chapel Hill there, such as its most important admissions factors, tuition, average SAT scores, etc.

Colleges, I’m pretty sure, first look at your midterm report. But if you let your senior grades slip and wind up with a D, your acceptance could be rescinded. It could be rescinded even if your grades dropped down to a C. I think. I could be overstating things.

You can’t major in something the school doesn’t offer, so taking online courses could get you a degree, but not from the university you attend. It would come from the online university.

And if I’m wrong about anything…well, I hope someone corrects me.

But yeah, keep your grades up, be open to changes, but if you’re really into sociology you should participate in things that would express your interest in it, etc, etc…

Colleges look at your transcript. Everything that’s there is…there. But, that’s usually 1st and 2nd semester grades for each class that gets a grade. Some schools show a final grade for the year. Some include any or all SAT and/or ACT scores. Speak with your GC. And, make sure you have the college costs talk with your parents.

If any college has supplemental questions about why you chose a particular possible major, be certain you understand what that major is about. Many kids get confused about some of the social sciences.

Thanks guys!
