Ok, so I’ve already taking the SAT I (2330) but am prepping for the SAT II and…it’s not going so swell. I will take Bio E and Math II this June but I keep missing many questions just because I don’t know the material, though I think I did ok on the AP Bio Exam MC and am sufficient in PreCalc. The problem is, I just can never score as high as I did for the SAT Reasoning test (which was done with a lot of prep).

Should I just keep reading review books and doing practice exams or what? I’m using Barron’s right now for both. My score does not seem to be improving… and I’ve had bad luck with my previous real SAT IIs (700 and 740) since I’m aiming for at least a couple 750+'s.

Thanks for any words of advice!

A big score on SAT I doesn’t mean you will score high on Subject Tests. They are totally different exams. Just keep studying and taking practice tests. Look at the questions you miss, understand your mistake, and remember to do it correctly the next time.

Biology is all about knowing the material and the same with math. For biology, take practice exams and see what topics you keep questions wrong on. Reread the corresponding section of the review book until you have a better grasp of the topic. As for math, just take practice exams if you already know the topics and read the explanations on how to solve the problem. Barron’s is particularly helpful (the answer explanations don’t involve POE or plug-in as much as PR’s do). I’m the opposite of you–I can do pretty well on any SAT II other than foreign language, but cannot seem to attain a 2300 on the SAT Reasoning…

Well, SAT II’s are more of a memorizing test than a reasoning test, so that could be part of it. Also, if you are using prep books, those tend to give lower scores than the actual exam, so that could be part of it too. And nice SAT score btw!

I think you need to also keep in mind your SAT score is quite high so it would be difficult to surpass it with your SAT 2’s regardless. As mj rothlan said, you really need to work on memorization for the SAT 2’s (especially Biology).

bio-go memorize a textbook
math-buy a ti-89 calculator
it will do the test for you and its allowed on the satII and sat
