HELP!! I don't know what school to apply/attend. Is Milton Academy a good school?

I am trying to decide what schools to apply to and hopefully attend. I found out about Milton Academy and have fallen in in love with all it has to offer. However, how does this school compare to other boarding schools? Is it completely awful compared to Exeter or Milton? What type of personality would fit in at Milton? Even though it has been my dream to attend boarding school for several years, would I be better to stay at my local public high school?
I would love to hear from anyone who attended Milton Academy or who knows someone who did. I would also love to hear from anyone who has had children that attended Milton. I love Milton, but is it a good school? I don’t want to make the wrong choice for the future four years of my life.

Thank you so much for any reply!

Also what makes Milton Academy unique compared to other schools?
Sorry for all the questions  I’m just trying to get ahead in planning things.

Yes, Milton is a great school.

Milton is an incredible school. By my methods, I rank Milton among the top 7 in that nation (not that any of us rank schools nor should we!)
A distinctive aspect of Milton is that it is 50% boarding/50% day. Remember to never fall in love with just one school…oops, too late…but be sure to fall in love with a number of other schools too. Have fun!

At this point in the application cycle, you should be focused on the “apply” part of “apply/attend”. And I could argue not even that far along — I’d advising staying in “consider applying” mode for a little while longer. Look into as many schools as you can.

If you are fortunate enough to be admitted to a school, then you can worry about the “attend” part.

One thing I’ve learned from participating on the forum for a few years is that it is EXTREMELY difficult to get admitted to one of the more selective schools, which includes Milton Academy. Best of luck and don’t forget to use the search tool, as chances are someone’s had the same questions about Milton (and any other school you are exploring).

Have you done any search/research on this board or on Boardingschoolreview.com so that you can find out what schools meet your wish list? You may find that, as good as Milton may be, there are MANY MANY MANY other schools that you may like as well. Do some research. Make a list. Narrow it down. Apply.

Milton is a good school and definitely up there in the top ranks (Exeter would be a little more top but Milton is still quite good). I agree with @SevenDad‌ and @london203‌; it would be a good idea to look at more schools so you’ll have more options and less of a harsh win/lose situation when acceptance comes around. Directly from its website, this is what Milton says it is looking for in a student:

“What kind of students would be happy living at Milton?”

• Open-minded
• Curious
• Willing to work hard
• Tolerant
• Ready to find out who you are
• Willing to be true to themselves

As a whole, Milton offers some good programs and is a great school. Do look into other schools as well, however. Don’t narrow your list down TOO much.

@bullneck Thank you so much for your reply and for helping me learn more about Milton. Also thank you so much @jjs123‌ Your ranking really helped me.
@SevenDad‌ Thank you too for your reply. I am in the research stage right now. I just want to have some different perspectives on Milton.
And thank you so much @london203 Boardingschoolreview.com has definitely been a friend during this process:) It is such an amazing website with so many resources available.
Finally, thank you so much @awsmyyy You’re advice was of great help!

Thank you again to everyone who supplied their views and perspective on this. I really appreciate it!

Milton is an amazing school! I will be a senior in the fall and have attended Milton since 9th grade. While i didn’t necessarily get to experience what other boarding schools have to offer (I have a sibling who attended Milton and because I was happy at my old school it was the only prep school I applied to) I can say that my experience at MA has been great. Milton is definitely a very competitive school both academically and athletically. While not really on the same tier as the Andover/Exeter level schools, Milton certainly provides an incredible education. I would say base where you are applying on which school serves your interests the best!

The way I would say it is that Milton is at the elite level but that Groton/Exeter/Andover/SPS are first among equals in that group.
