Help in understanding my NYU FA offer?

The perplexing thing to me…the student accepted the grant money and not the loans (which he wouldn’t have gotten anyeay). Maybe his family has the resources not to need additional money.

If not…NYU is not affordable.

But why ED II when financial concerns are there…if they are?

It doesn’t look like the package would have been much good even if it were accurate. Work/Study is always risky because you have to find a job and make sure that you earn enough in time to avoid wasting your award; it won’t do you any good paying tuition, room and board, or books since you typically need to have those paid before you even get to campus or very soon afterwards.

The second largest piece of “aid” is the Parent PLUS loan, which the student can’t even take out anyway; why is that even included in an aid package? Most of the rest of it are other loans that the student can take out. There just isn’t much there that is actually from NYU. You hear about gapping but this is almost a joke. A $20k+ grant sounds great but they still expect the student/family to borrow that much each year.

Grant money is generally automatically marked accepted by schools. Who wouldn’t accept grant money? I don’t think the student actually accepted anything.

And we don’t know if once NYU realizes that this is an int’l student, they may take back the grant. NYU has only recently been giving “some” grants to int’ls.

I agree. This student absolutely needs to contact NYU and tell them that his financial aid award appears to NOT be one for an international student.

Something isn’t right here.

I contacted them, and after a few days, the financial aid office told me that they rectified my financial aid award. They did overlook my citizenship, and now they just left the first two awards that I listed. Thank you!
