Help is very, very appreciated

Hola amigos! Okay, that’s all the “French” I know! Anyways, as that title says, I need help, and here is what I need help with: So I’ve taken the SAT a couple of times and now my so-called superscore is 1900 (630CR 620M 650W E8). I’ll talk now, if you’re still reading this, about each branch individually so that you’d understand my situation.

Critical Reading: I’m happy with it as CR is the hardest branch for me, and since I’m an international student, not taking anything from us but providing as much information as possible, I don’t see much room for improvement, though you’re comments are more than welcome.

Writing: So no, I’m not happy with my Writing score. It has always been a shame for me, and I believe I can do waay better. The problem is I don’t know how, and that’s where the “help” is required. My best raw score in W was 44 with 8 essay, and that scored 650, which also was shocking and disappointing. What do I do? How do I improve?

Math: Didn’t prepare much, got 620. Not so good, not so bad either, from my point of view. I see a huge space for improvement. Thoughts?

Now the most important question: Do you guys think that I can get 2000+ in May? It is all I want in my life now, and if any of you guys, and I mean anyone, says “yes”, I’ll study as if my life depends on it during the upcoming months. So yeah, your replies might change my life. What can I do to improve the Math and the Writing? Please share all that is possible.

Note: I have not taken the previous trial and I regret it.

So that’s pretty much about it, finally.

Thanks in advance,
your extremely depressed, Egyptian student.

yes you can definitely get a 2000+ because that would occur with a raise in any section…most colleges accept the super-score so I believe you can get that to be 2000+

for the essay, I took an SAT class and they gave me advice on how to formulate the essay. use 3 examples: one from a book, one from society (politics, medicine, etc) and one personal example. this will prove your point completely. I used this method and got a full score on my essay every time (I’m not a super strong writer otherwise)

before going into the test, write down examples of books you’ve read, current problems you are in the world, activities you’ve participated in, etc so that you have a list brainstormed ahead of time to pick from when writing your essay

good luck, you can get a 2000+!

I don’t know where you’re coming from but “holas amigos” isn’t french
PS: I’m french…
Concerning your score, retaking it depends on the colleges you’re focusing on. If you’ve time enough don’t hesitate and try to get a better score.
you’ve made me laugh…   “Hola amigos” es espanol

Well… It is a joke :stuck_out_tongue: Anyways, what can I do to improve my Essay and Math scores?
Please somebody answer that question!

So are you familiar with all concepts that the sat math will test? And do you have any probs understanding the questions (due to vocab, etc). As i remember, the barron’s book does offer a specific part for math, so do it and if you have any prob you can share it here and we will try to resolve it. Keep the faith my friend, i believe you can definitely reach the score 2000+ in May :)

No I’m not. I don’t even think that I know 50% of them. What other than Barron’s do you think is helpful in such case? Thanks for the reply.

And… You guys must be kidding! Only 3 replies? This post already has over 600 views! Com’on! Share your knowledge. This might be a life-altering reply! :D

Sparknotes online or Kaplan’s SAT Premier. The best thing you can do now is take a practice test, and review your answers carefully. Study the type of questions you miss.

I think that Barron’s book is quite enough bcause these maths concept are quite easy, As a matter of fact a good 13-years-old pupil could have a good score. so you just have to read and practice. I remember of some videos on youtube which were useful (“prep radical” youtube)–> even though excercies are easy…
there’s also sparknotes which can be very helpful unless you’re very bad at maths.
don’t hesitate to google, a lot of PDF are available especially for the 2400 SAT.

For math, use the books by Dr. Warner and Dr. Jung.

I’ll surely try these out, thanks for the help!

One more question though, what do you guys think of the curves in May and June? Are they usually any good? Cause I think the Jan. one was terrific, something that made me regret not taking the Jan. trial.

You can’t tell how the curves will be before the test. Also, with a generous curve, you’d get a hard test, and with a harsh curve, you’d get an easy test, so it balances out.

Well, I might be biased, but I thought the January curve was much, much harsher than normal. (-3=710) The test didn’t seem easier than the BB practice tests though

Yeah the math curve wasn’t cool (-2 = 750 for me, 2350 total)

:( it’s unfair for stupid mistakes
