Help looking for schools for average student

I’m trying to pick out some schools for my brother, but I am having trouble thinking of schools that might fit him.
He is top 10-15% of his class, 1100 M/V SAT’s, and a few APs and solid EC’s.
He is looking for a school:

with strong D-1 athletics

that is on the smaller side,

and that is in either VA, DC, NJ, MD, DE, NJ, NY, PA, CT, and maybe Massachusetts.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it as I am having difficulty thinking of schools that meet the above-listed criteria.

Maybe this’ll be of help:

Could look at Villanova, Drexel, Saint Joe’s, LaSalle, Temple…all D-I schools in Phila. and on the smaller side(except for Temple).
Maybe check out Rider U or Monmouth or Seton Hall in NJ, Fordham in NYC, Marist in NY or Fairfield U in CT.
Some of these are slightly larger but none is huge.

Is your brother an athlete, intramurals player, or spectator? Many of the schools mentioned are D-1 in sports except for football. For that sport, you would need a school such as Lafayette, Colgate or Holy Cross, which might require higher SAT scores.

penn state- probable match, good sports, PA

Va Tech- i don’t know exactly what type of stats are needed for this school, but it does have some good sports

UMD- probably a reach unless he can raise his SAT scores, good sports as well
