Help! Male cat won't stop yowling!

I just have to say that I am at my wits’ end. My loving, terribly affectionate cat is turning into a yowling terror. All day (at night it worsens) he prowls the house yowling at the top of his lungs wanting to go outside. The reason that we don’t let him out because he disappears for days to weeks and brings back ticks and fleas when he comes home. We’re not sure how old he is but we know he’s not too young since he’s developing grey chin hairs. However, he is fixed. I’m sure others have experienced this. How did you combat this? He and I are getting into some serious arguments lol.

I personally have not had this experience, but a friend had a neutered male that began howling to go out. She found out that there was a female cat around “in season” and fixed or not, the boy kitties are still interested.

From a quick look at a website, I found that hyperthyroidism can cause yowling, esp in older cats and I did have a male that cried constantly when he had kidney stones. The vet explained that they often will avoid the litter box, thinking they can find a new area where they won’t hurt. Guess he’s had a vet check?

I think there could be a female in heat, and he is bored cooped up all day, wouldn’t you be? find things to amuse him, play with him, put out new toys at night

and a vet check is imperative, and check the diet…he could be in pain
