Help me choose an essay

for apply texas ( describe an obstacle in ur life )

Option 1 :- last year due to personal reasons (depression) I had stopped studying my teachers said that I was gonna fail my final school leaving exam my friends and parents believed the same and advised to repeat the year but I studied really hard in the last 2 months and passed the final exam with grades that were satisfactory.

Option 2. :- I had an exam for which I had to travel to a different city and I needed an admit card stamped by a gazetted officer which got spoiled on Friday evening a day before the exam I called my uncle and he said nothing could be done so I went out walked for miles got a new admit card (off the internet ) got new pictures for my admit card and got it stamped and reached my hotel 4 hours later.

Option 2 for sure. Even though depression is a bigger obstacle to overcome, college admissions officers will develop bias against you for having a mental illness. If there’s even the slightest risk of you relapsing due to the stress of college, your chances of admission will be in jeopardy. It’s best if you can get your high school guidance counselor to put that any drop in your grades was due to health issues that are taken care of, and that you’ve worked hard through those issues, in his or her recommendation letter.

Is my story good enough or should I think of something else

First of all option one sounds cliched…and even if you do mention getting low grades, it may jeopardise your chance of admission in that particular college.

Cheers!

It depends on how you write it, I guess. But consider that your essay will be going against students writing about poverty, disability, a move or divorce, things like that… So, IDK, you have to make sure readers are clear that this is a legitimate obstacle…
