I live in California. I’m currently leaning towards UCSD unless some waitlist clutches up. It looks like a great school with a solid chem program. I know that UIUC has a really well reputed chemistry program, but OOS tuition doesn’t seem worth it. I want to go into Forensic Chemistry, if that counts for anything. Generally, getting lab experience will be very important for me.
UCSD and UCD are both reputed for chem and unless you can afford and want to be there, I would not spend on UW or UIUC.
Best of luck.
Your logic makes perfect sense to me. Congrats.
Easy choice, UCSD or UCD (your preference here). No good reason to pay for OOS public if you got accepted to top/mid tier UCs in state. Good Luck.
Top colleges undergrad chemistry. Those UCs are not mid tier.
May I ask how this ranking system works? I find it hard to believe UCSD ranks above Berkeley in particular, considering they rate Berkeley with a higher median salary.
It doesn’t really matter. Right now you have two great in-state options so focus on choosing the school where you want to spend the next four years. I have to believe that both fine colleges will be able to provide a strong undergrad chemistry education – the rest will be up to you.
If you get into a waitlist school you prefer down the road it is a bonus. You have already done very well.
Thank you!
UCSD or UCD. You should visit both schools and see which one fits you better. Davis apparently is collaborative and the town is apparently a nice small town, but there may not be as much to do as compared to UCSD. San Diego has a lot of things to do including beach, restaurants, Padres, hiking, golfing, and LA only two hours away. The weather is better. UCSD seems to be a little more cut throat from what I’ve heard. I presume cost of living is higher at UCSD.
If it was my choice, I’d go to UCSD.
Especially since your cheaper alternative includes UCSD. While UIUC may be slightly better, both are within the same top tier and both have international recognition. UCSD in-state >>> UIUC OOS. In my opinion, with UIUC OOS and UCSD and UCD in-state, there is no reason to consider Washington.
