Have been accepted into University of washington Seattle (computer science)
Purdue (applied cyber security)
Uiuc (applied analytics and data science)
I am a international student
Which one will be the best choice please help have a tough time choosing
What do you want to do ? UW CS is tops.
Purdue’s program is in the less competitive Polytechnic School. It doesn’t make it bad. But it’s not CS.
UIUC’s program is also different.
Look at the three curriculums. Which fits you ?
Another vote to look at the 4 year plan of study for each school. You will find them very different. Which appeals to you more?
The overall vibe of Purdue and UIUC is similar, as is size and general location. Both have a robust international community. Both have a strong alumni network. I can’t speak to UW but the are a power house for CS.
At both Purdue and UIUC it will be next to impossible to switch majors to CS if that is what you are truly interested in so keep that in mind!
Congrats on wonderful acceptances! You can’t make a wrong choice!
These are all different majors. What are you most interested in? Which one fits best with your post-graduation plans (in your home country)?
This ^^^^… is very important. What do you want to do after graduating? This group of strangers know nothing about you. How can we even give you advice?
Congratulations on your acceptances.
Even if you want to make a career in Cybersecurity, Data Sciences/Analytics, nothing beats an undergrad degree in Computer Science.
UW Seattle is the way to go.
Thanks will look into the detailed curriculum
Thanks for the great pointers… I was also looking more into which Uni will get me internships and job prospects
Back to square one - all three have students who get internships and job prospects, whether through the schools themselves or on your own.
But given you are international, you will likely not find many doors open for you. If anything, you’ll have to work hard on your own to find something because companies shy away from international students and that might be even more so given the current administration.
Can you give any more inputs into which has more postgrad opportunities
Reading all this .. me too leaning towards CS
As an international student, consider how the different majors and university prestige affect job prospects in your country of citizenship or other countries where you can easily get work authorization (the US is not such a country).
Seattle has all big tech companies so opportunities are better is what I thought
Thanks will look into more of that
Purdue has a very robust career services center, one of the largest job fairs in the country, and a well supported co op program. However, and this is a big however, when my D was a student, international students had a harder time finding internships, co ops, and jobs. I’d strongly encourage you to contact the office of international students at each of these schools and ask them for job statistics specifically for international students.
Comp Sci degree will set you up for long term success in tech. You can always specialize in any of the niches during/after college; Seattle is the place to be for tech jobs. For me this is a no brainer. Saying as an tech industry veteran based in Seattle for two decades.
Just want to note that as an international student, you cannot assume you will be able to stay in the US after graduation.
But OP should be aware that companies are getting increasingly more hesitant to sponsor non citizens given the time, expense and uncertainty + a larger supply of domestic CS graduates.
The experiences of CS grads who are US citizens/PRs is not the same as that of foreign grads.
That is true regardless of school. I’m only answering what he asked to help between his options.
Even so, it helps to be in a place where there are greater opportunities and employers are relatively more open to visa applicants.
While I appreciate this, all three schools are placing well and nationally - Most Purdue Cyber grads ($79K) ended up in Illinois and Indiana but also in CA, DC, FL, GA, MA, NY, TX, WA and more.
So while I appreciate your experience, I think all three can deliver - although that’s major related. And tech jobs are all over - not just Seattle. Heck, where I live in TN, Oracle is moving its HQ here, as an example.
But again, being international, none of that matters - if you’re coming here expecting to stay, you’re very likely to be disappointed.
