Help me decide! LMU (~90k/yr) vs. UCI (~45k/yr) for Theatre Arts

Hello!

I’m a graduating senior who is planning on pursuing acting in theatre or film rather than musical theatre, but I hope to do some MT on the side. Tuition is not an issue for my family and I am an in-state student, however, I did receive a scholarship a LMU. I was accepted into both school’s BA programs.

I have some older friends who are currently attending LMU and have given me a lot of insight into their program, but my main reason for UCI is that I like the campus and living vibes more than LMU. Also many of my friends this year plan on going to UCI (not for theatre) so it’ll be nice since none of my friends are going to LMU (I’m an introvert LOL).

I don’t know much about UCI drama program, but I have heard that LMU does have more access to connections and networking in the Hollywood business.

If any alumni, current students, or professionals in the business have any suggestions or information on either program I’m open to them! Thanks!

Then why does your thread title indicate that LMU is $90,000 per year ?

It was the estimated direct and indirect costs listed with my scholarship. So I guess it would be more around 70k without the extra stuff

LMU is great for your intended majors, but the price differential is substantial.

I am unfamiliar with UCI for theatre arts related majors.

You might ask how many graduates are working professionals and their salaries.

My guess is there’s a huge breakage in the field.

In the end, if your parents are ok at $70K, then - so great.

If not, then UCI - but you might ask them too for outcomes.

This is one of those fields where few likely make a successful and long term living - so it really comes down to your parents personal decision.

All that said - it seems like you prefer Irvine - and that matters too.
