Transferring from ASU - school was way too big for me and I want to be closer to home, CT.
I got into Manhattan College, UVM, West Chester and Univ of Scranton.
I love Manhattans location but it’s small, Scranton seems nice but area around campus has lots of gang activity, West Chester, all frats? UVM, boring? Crime? Frats?
Can anyone shed some light on these schools and why they do or do not like them. I tried searching but most of the info is old.
UVM is closest to your ASU but far away - and in city. Not Phoenix/Tempe of course.
West Chester has more students but is not a flagship - will likely be more commuterish although holds 5300 kids on campus.
Manhattan - a fraction of the side of both - gives you direct access to Manhattan with a short trip. Scranton is a bit bigger. Scranton is a small city.
Have you been to these? Is one more affordable? After hearing all your concerns I think Millersville
You need to visit these. You need to find the positives in why you applied.
If you felt Scranton was safe, would it be a top choice? If so, talk to a student ambassador…ask about Safety.
Is West Chester all frats? I can’t confirm on line.
Anyway - I would hope you would have researched schools before you applied.
You are looking for a place you’d like to be, not hate to be.
I’m glad you’re going to see them. Hopefully one will stand out to you. It’s an eclectic list - I see Manhattan and Scranton together but not the others.
What are you studying?
I think, rather than what others think, not relevant, you’ll know after going .
I can only really speak to West Chester. I live in WC but didn’t attend (my wife did however but a long time ago :)) - it’s definitely not “all frats”. As a matter of fact, it’s a pretty light frat presence and you definitely do not need to be associated with the greek system there socially. It’s a really nice town - a lot of bars, restaurants, shops, etc. It’s the county seat as well as the university so there’s definitely “stuff”. The school has grown significantly over the past 10 years so it seems to be resonating with kids - now 16-17k undergrads. I have a D24 but she didn’t look at it because she grew up here but she always compares the town to other schools she has visited and it’s been a hard comp for her to beat (in her mind anyway). That’s my 2 cents on WC. Not sure what you are majoring in but I like Manhattan for the job aspects (if you can stand NYC). Good luck!
