Does cost differ or matter?

These are very different schools.

Where can you afford and where does he feel most comfortable?

I think any and all will be good although you might look at curriculums to see who excels in MIS and you might ask for career outcomes.

You might also look at overall academics - can he easily double major, etc.?

You have large, vibrant flagships, large regional schools and smaller private colleges. You have urban and sort of isolated.

Drexel is a co-op based school whereas the others aren’t.

There’s many differences here - even weather.

What’s important to the student?

Are you in state for the N.C. schools?

What type of college environment is he looking for? App State and VA Tech are big football schools with tons of sports spirit.

UNC Charlotte has a good computer and cyber security dept. UNCC has sports too but not big time like Va Tech and App. Also good for business/finance. If you are in state I’d give it a closer look. Not sure how it compares if you are OOS.

I am from North Carolina. Other than UNCC every thing else in that list same cost wise. I am ok if the college is good.

No - but that’s on paper, that doesn’t mean you won’t crush it…especially in IT where there’s a supply/demand imbalance.

Depending on his temperament, I’d say

  • if quiet, serious, likes challenges and is interested in many fields, wants to be in a big city and have a lot of personal attention&resources at his disposal: Case Western
  • if he likes spectator sports, enjoys topnotch food, likes the idea of a college town and mostly preprofessional business/STEM students :VTech
  • if he is social, perhaps extroverted, wants personal attention and geographical diversity, doesn’t mind a relatively isolated campus: Elon
  • if he wants a larger university with a topnotch school of computing, in a city and at instate rates: UNCC

Imho these 4 would be the ones to beat, the strongest propositions depending on what he is like and enjoys/dislikes.

I’d add App State in there too. Most people in NC consider it the third best state school but UNCC is right up there and might have the edge in computer science. Better football at App.
