From my understanding, all three universities lack traditional campuses and rather are collections of buildings located in or near downtown of their respective cities.

Could someone contrast the campuses and social atmosphere/settings between these three institutions? Which campus, assuming they’re distinguishable, would fit which type of personality better?

These three are very similar. They contrast by their respective cities. NYU is in the village and is fairly hipstery because of it. It is very trendy and also very expensive. Because of the diversity in NYC, NYU can be anything you want it to be if you live off campus. You have all of NYC as your playground, including vast employment options for internships.

GW is in the heart of D.C. in Foggy Bottom near the White House. Students are typically very politically oriented. Many students can be found interning around D.C. trying to make a difference. GW students are not as preppy as the nearby students of Georgetown, but they typically are from decent families in the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions.

BU is in Kenmore square in Boston. It is near Fenway Park but the student body isn’t overly concerned with sports (Hockey is the biggest sport on campus). The student body is typically made up of people from the northeast, and the student body is probably the least diverse of the group. Boston is a fund college town, although BU students compete against Harvard, MIT, BC and Northeastern students for internships which makes it difficult to get decent internships.

One thing to look at - particularly with NYU - is housing options. A large percentage of NYU students end up living off campus and because you are in Manhattan, that often means heading to Brooklyn or Queens in order to find something that works in a student budget. A larger percentage of students live on campus at the other schools or if off campus - I am pretty sure they are generally living in the same area. But worth checking out since it changes the cost and campus life for the schools.

NYU guarantees housing for 4 years. There are plenty of students who remain in campus housing for all 4 years and many who find apartments near to campus.
