I’m looking for a college with these characteristics:

A good research school where I will be able to participate in research and possible do my own independent work (i’ve done my own research in high school in genetics and would really like to continue it)

A good study abroad program, where there are a lot of options and its common to study abroad. Also it would help if the school make it affordable to study abroad, like if it was the same cost as regular tuition.

Although I will major in science, probably bio or chem, I have interests in many other subjects that I would like to peruse. Mostly, I would like to study multiple foreign languages as well as take classes in things like art that are outside of my major. I would like to do this and still be able to graduate in 4 years, more or less.

I would also like to have a medium to large size campus, but this doesnt matter as much. It would also be good if it was located near or in a city.

For this I’ll just pretend that money doesn’t matter. Overall I have pretty good stats (SAT: 2320, ACT: 35, high rank, good ecs), so I think I stand a chance at good colleges.

Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated

Hopkins sounds perfect for you. Incredible research environment, great study abroad program, very strong in your potential majors, and it also has a lot of course flexibility.

You can certainly get into more prestigious schools, but you may want to consider applying for the U. of Georgia’s Foundation Fellows program. Each year, Harvard, Yale and Princeton accepted students turn down HYP for it (the same is true for Robertson Scholars at Duke and UNC). The FF site says “Founded in 1972 by The University of Georgia Foundation’s trustees, the Foundation Fellows Program is the university’s foremost undergraduate scholarship, placing students in a community of similarly dedicated scholars, offering a stipend that approximates the cost of attendance, a post-first-year Maymester study abroad program, individual travel-study grants, group travel-study opportunities each spring, research and academic conference grants, dinner seminars with some of the university’s best minds, and a mentoring plan that matches Fellows with professors who share their interests.”
