<p>As I’ve been doing my search, I’ve felt nothing but anxiety. I messed up somewhat junior year, which I know is very important for admissions (additionally it dropped my rank by a lot). I feel like my GPA is not indicative of the type of person I am. I’m looking for very very liberal (think Bard or Wesleyan) schools that are not terribly selective. I want schools that I have a bright chance of getting into. I’m working on my essay right now, and I feel like it is pretty good, and will help out a lot. I am writing on the topic of ‘talk about a social issue… etc’ about globalization the rise of the internet has given way to, and how our generation is the most connected yet.</p>

<p>Background: Black female from single parent home. I went to Australia for two weeks with People to People when I was 12.</p>
<p>Rank: 78th percentile, or 37th in class.</p>
<p>ACT: 28 (I’m retaking this in September. I can push my score to 31, possibly 32.)</p>
<p>GPA: 3.0 UW. will probably be sitting at 3.2ish next year. (I failed my trig course last semester, however since I am post secondary, my HS took the average of my math course the previous semester and that class. I can still move on to calc, but I figured it was worth mentioning. I am willing to retake it in the spring if necessary, however I’ve been told it probably wouldn’t be, as long as I do well in calc.)</p>
<p>Courses: My first two years I took the most rigorous schedule I could, all honors and 1 AP, starting junior year I started doing post secondary, so I’ve been taking college classes since.</p>
<p>I’ve had 3 years of french, one of which was college level french.
I will graduate with
3 years of lab science
4 years of math
4 years of social science (history, government, psychology)
4 years of English composition
4 years of band
as well as a year of computer science and business (they’re necessary for graduation at my school.)</p>
<p>ECs: most of these will be 4 years by the time I graduate.
Mock Trial - 3 years (our school’s mock trial team is rather victorious, we make it to states every year.)
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) - 3
Marching band (alto saxophone) - 3
Jazz band (bass guitar) - 3
Regional honors band (alto sax) - 2
Concert ensemble (alto saxophone) - 3
~100hrs volunteer work in the community.
I work at the annual Jazz Festival at the college I take PSEO courses at.
Played bass in our school’s musical last year, I’ll repeat it this year.
I do graphic design for my school’s band program. I design our shirts every year as well as anything else that requires some sort of design, lol</p>
<p>Talent:

Music (composition, as well as performance.)</p>
<p>Recs: I generally get along very well with teachers, so I’m fairly confident I’ll get a great rec from my high school or college French teacher, or my Mock Trial coach.</p>
<p>Awards:
I’ve won at least 3 awards from Jazz festivals my school plays at, but I need to look for the certificates to find the names.
