I am looking at universities that are similar to Syracuse university but do not cost as much because no one can pay 60,000 dollars a year!

When I mean simliar to Syracuse university, i mean in terms of academics, reputation, party scene, sports, clubs, programs, etc.

It is VERY well known for its great academics and programs
it has a very spirited student body (football games etc)
very fun party scene (greek life, concerts on campus)

however the only problem is that is costs too much.
can anyone think of a school similar to it?
thank you!!

dude, you need to run the net price calculator at each school to which you’re thinking of applying. They’re found on the FA page of each school. It will estimate what need-based aid you will get, and it will differ from school to school. So you can find out now instead of waiting til the packages arrive in March.

A friend’s kid who really wanted Syracuse ended up at SUNY Buffalo and LOVES it there. SUNY Buffalo will be a cheaper alternative to Syracuse even if you are OOS. Sports aren’t as big at Buffalo (although they do play the major sports) but given the price differential, it might be a reasonable trade-off. Consider your state flagship as well.

While it’s true you won’t know your exact amounts of FA now, you can run Net Price Calculators for each of your schools and get a pretty good idea.

Are you applying to College Park? It meets all your criteria.

Public universities which are relatively affordable for out of state students include University of Minnesota, Temple, Rutgers, and University of Delaware.

James Madison, VA Tech, SUNY Binghamton… if you are interested in Environmental Science, look at SUNY ESF (shares some campus resources with Syracuse).
