I’m taking my SAT and ACT asap, what kinds of scores would I need to have any chance at all at each of these schools?
U Penn
Cornell
MIT
U Chicago
Northwestern
NYU
Notre Dame
I’m guaranteed a spot at UT Austin.

Any other suggestions (and scores I would need for them)? Anywhere you think I should cross off?

Cornell seems like it would be the worst “fit” for me, but it also seems like the prestige it carries vs how hard it is to get in (basing this on test scores) makes it a bit less of a reach than the others, and prestige matters more for a degree like finance than most.

Also thank you very much for your input about scores!

KWU, what makes Cornell dissimilar from the other schools mentioned? Also, to openedskittles, have you considered GWU? I hear they have excellent economics, are fairly prestigious and I’d say you could get in easily.

Oh, well then I’m not sure what KWU means, either. I’m not super leftist, but I’m not too worried about an atmosphere that is. Somewhere like Reed College is a bit much for me, though.

U Penn - Philadelphia
Cornell - Ithaca
MIT - Boston
U Chicago - Chicago
Northwestern - Chicago
NYU - New York City
Notre Dame - Indiana
I’m guaranteed a spot at UT Austin. - Austin + safety

I don’t know enough about Ithaca or Indiana, but your other schools are all located within or near major metropolitan areas.

A “reach” school is one to which it will be very, very difficult for you to be admitted. So, why not just shoot higher? If you want prestige and Finance, go Princeton.

Oh. That’s all? I know where all of these are located and South Bend and Ithaca are both about 90 miles from Chicago and NYC respectively, so I’m not too worried, but I do like the city.

Princeton would definitely get me where I want to go, but I’m worried I won’t have the numbers for it. In fact, I thought my current list were reaches. HYPS would be awesome, but do you really think I have a shot?

Given your rank, GPA, and curriculum, you are Princeton material!

nota bene, though: be very, very wary that the SAT means a great deal to Princeton. The numbers–the numerical distinctions–that I cited are from Princeton’s website.
