I plan on transferring in a year or two and I just want to know some schools in mind.

My major will be Sociology in the Liberal Arts category.

I also want to find a college that doesn’t require a foreign language requirement (to graduate). I have already taken two years of a foreign language in high school and that really hurt my GPA and I don’t want it to happen again. I know some schools require you to finish 3rd or 4th level of a foreign language in order to graduate and I want to avoid that.

Thanks.

I would suggest the University of Iowa but there is a foreign language requirement. Most schools you will find have a foreign language requirement, but many schools at a regional level may only have 2 yr requirement.

Well the thing is I have taken a two years of high school of a foreign language but I just don’t want to take another language or restart.

Is it mainly because of the my Major or what?

For some reason colleges think it’s a good idea to be acquainted with more than one language. Is that bad for sociology? I don’t think so.

Most schools will probably have a 3 year requirement for any major within the liberal arts and sciences. Your best bet would be to look for a BS program rather than a BA program from a non-flagship type school such as UNO. Or switch to a program not in liberal arts.

[UNO | Sociology and Anthropology | BS](http://www.unomaha.edu/socanth/bs.php)

The University of Northern Iowa doesn’t require any additional foreign language if you took 2 years of the same language in high school and passed with at least a C-.

[University of Northern Iowa](http://www.uni.edu/)

From their website:

*Two years of one foreign language in high school with a C- or above in the last course meets the university graduation requirement. The university highly recommends that students fulfill this requirement while in high school.

I don’t know your stats, but Grinnell College in Iowa only requires you to complete a freshman tutorial and fulfill the requirements for any major. Other than that, your course selection is completely unrestricted.
