Help me find the right coffee maker!

I have always had a Cuisinart 14 cup coffee maker and a Keurig. While the Cuisinart makes good enough coffee for me, now that it is just me at home, I have used the Keurig exclusively unless the kids are in town. I only drink one cup of coffee in the morning, so the Keurig works for me.

I wanted to get away from using Kcups, so purchased a Moccamaster when there was a great deal on Black Friday at Target. I am no coffee connoisseur, as evident by the use of Dunkin Donut coffee! I am not getting the hype with the Moccamaster. It takes twice the amount of grounds than I use in my Cuisinart, and it isn’t as hot. Truthfully, even my Keurig taste better, or at least the same.

I will hold onto my Cuisinart until I know I have something that can replace it, but if I keep the Moccamaster and my kids don’t approve, I will just use it for me, and keep the Cuisinart for larger brews. Currently thinking about returning the Moccamaster, but it sure does look nice on the counter! I am thinking I should just make a smaller amount of coffee in the Cuisinart, although I have never tried less that 6 cups in it, but assume it will be good enough.

What coffee maker do you love and why? Not looking for Espresso machines; I get treated at my daughter’s with a latte!

When I saw the thread title, I was planning to come here to recommend the Moccamaster! Sorry you don’t like yours.

I believe @abasket had been looking for a coffee maker not so long ago. Apologies if I don’t remember correctly!

I replaced my big Cuisinart 14 cup with a Moccamaster a few years ago. I love it. I wouldn’t pay full price. I think I bought it Black Friday a few years ago plus a big percent back from Rakuten. It’s not programmable but it brews fast. I kept the Cuisinart for family gatherings. If it’s not for you I’d return it.

My daughter just bought a Nespresso that uses the larger pods. She just drinks one cup on her drive to work and often from Starbucks. The pods aren’t as bad as the Keurig and you can send them back for recycling.

Yes it’s been a couple years but I def had a thread or two over the CC years - I bet the last was closed as it’s been more than 2 years ago.

I was looking to something that makes decent coffee (I’m not a coffee snob), was smaller than a 12 cup and most important to me, something that looked good out on the counter.

This is no longer available on Amazon but I paid like $70-$80? and 2+ years later I’m still really happy with it. I think @deb922 had the same one!

I happened to be on CC when you tagged me.

I still have that brim. I got mine at Macy’s, it does not look like they sell it anymore.

I saw this one

I like that mine is an automatic pour over. Makes good pretty fast coffee. Sorry to hear that yours kicked the bucket

Yes, this is my second “pour over” variety and I have loved both. I was so sad when my first one died after several years! Both I bought for the purpose of being smaller (not 12 cups) models.

When not enjoying caramel cappucinos from DH’s Nespresso, I use refillable plastic pods in my Keurig which enable me to buy any coffee I want, avoid the pod waste, and recycle the grounds around our plants. I’m not a coffee snob either. Dunkin’ in the Keurig is just fine.

Sounds like you don’t have a problem.

I use this. It makes one large cup of coffee. It’s like a pour over but doesn’t release the coffee until you put it up on the cup so it sits for a little longer and it intensifies the flavor which I like.

@ChoatieMom I just wanted to move away from the plastic use and waste of the Kcups. I do like being about to changing up my flavors in the morning, so for that, the Kcups are great. I do find if I want more than 10oz., I have to use a second Kcup which I find so wasteful and expensive. My Keurig is old, but still works if I am ok with a few grinds in my coffee!

In the past, the refillable pod made a huge mess, so we stopped using it. Of course, it is ancient, so maybe I should look into a newer one. That may be my best and cheapest option right now.

But, I do love the look of the Moccamaster! I am still playing with coffee amounts, and may try a full pot, just to see if I get a better taste and heat. Reading way too many reviews on how to get the perfect cup to rationalize keeping it. This was a gift to myself, so if I don’t keep it, might have to come up with something else I really don’t need to replace it.

Many would covet having a Moccamaster. I think you should experiment with it a bit more to see if you can fall in love with it. And maybe also have a single serve coffee option back up for when you just want something easy and simple??

I was just going to suggest this!

I once saw DH make a mess (grounds on the counter) with the refillable. After swatting him on the nose with a dish towel and a few stern "Bad DH!"s, I taught him how to:

  1. Use the pod as a scoop into the coffee container and shake/level/close over the container BEFORE moving the pod to the machine

or

  1. Make a clean pour spout from the coffee bag for precision filling.

His crime was holding the pod in one hand while using a spoon to move the coffee from the container/bag into the pod. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Men.

This is the type of refillable I use (no grounds on the counter or in the beverage):

@abasket Believe me, I understand. I have been looking at this for months and was excited to see the price at Target! While I really wanted the red, it was out of stock everywhere, so settled on the navy. My cousin has the green one which I had no idea she had until I saw it in her kitchen.

While I have not tried grinding my own grounds, that is next. I would prefer to buy already ground coffee, but know those might be too fine a ground; most of the flavored coffees locally do not come is whole beans. I have seen most mention stirring the grounds; seems to be overkill for a 16oz. cup of coffee!

I have spent so much time and energy researching, I realized this morning that I am out of coffee, so tomorrow will be a Kcup, or might have to do without caffeine as I already bled the Keurig for storage. :grimacing:

I am not giving up yet! Why is it when you want a new appliance, the old one lives on and on? My Cuisinart is 16 years old, and the Keurig is 11; the Keurig was a replacement for a my daughter’s 9 year old Keurig that we inherited when she moved to the UK.

I also drink one cup a day, and it’s manual pour over. Heat the water in an electric kettle, pour in enough to wet the grounds, wait maybe 30 seconds, and slowly pour in the rest of the water. Much better than anything I’ve had from a Keruig or a Mr. Coffee-style machine. You don’t even need to buy anything (other than filters) if you have a basket you can detach from an old machine.

For a group of coffee drinkers, I can’t help much there. I have my mother’s old electric percolator but I’m not completely sold on the taste. Seems a little burned, maybe?
