well first of all I want to say hello. this is my first time in here. and i have been reading all of the other threads and have found valuable info. well… i know that rutgers only cares about act/sat, gpa, and ranking for the admissions since they have the computers do it all.lol. I am a rising senior and planing to double major in communications/journalism with a minor in spanish. is this possible at Rutgers. I emailed them but have received no anwers. anywyas…I am
hispanic/immigrant. instate
3.85 uw. 4.1 w
7/479-proud of myself.lol
23 act-hate it!

Those are the stats. i have taken hn and ap so yeah. i have the whole extra curricular, leadership and all that good stuff…since i actually wanted to go to an ivy before. i did it all, and was very into it. But cant find a school that allows me to do the double major i want. Rutgers seem to have that option.

Also since i am instate should i commute to Rutgers NB-that’s where they have my major- I am an hour away driving. but i heard that they have a bus. not sure though. But if i live on campus it will be around 80,000 and home 35,000- money is an issue but i wont get any $ from the fafsa; i doubt it. would i be able to paid it off with the profession i’ll have?anywhere i can get money-i hate sounding desperate!uugh

i realize other threads arent this long but w/e. ummm… do you think i could get any money. i have seen the chart they have online, but i have read that people sometimes do not get the money they should of. would i get any $ for my good grades rank and status as a hispanic/immigrant.

thanks in advance to all of you who will take th etime to read this and anwer.

JP Comm - I think you can get money. I would contact Douglass College at Rutgers and ask to speak with Georgia Fowler. She is an advisor and friend to many of the girls. My d is a senior Communication Major and has received merit money but that is purely based on the SAT/GPA/Rank. Rutgers does have alumni donations that help as well. Many student double major as well. You can live on campus or a nice off campus location is in Highland Park across Rte 27 bridge.

Findmepete- I am a guy. I dont know why did you think otherwise(maybe you were just being a bot sterotipycal major-wise) anyways i would like to ask you if I should still contact Georgia Fowler or if you had someone else in mind. Since the douglass college is the women college.

Sorry - My d is a comm major as well and had girls on the mind. you could still contact her as Douglass is no longer a separate college only separate dorms - my d received alumni money from the Douglass alumni and I am not sure how Douglass alumni distribute funds now as Douglass is part of Rutgers and Livingston Campus as far as requirements go. You have nothing to lose and she may offer you valuable contacts. Be your know advocate.

JPComm - for the most part yes, various topic classes on pop music, culture, advertising - very up to date & interesting - most dreaded class is comm research 300 - she first thought the teacher was to blame as no one liked or did well in the class but after completing it realized the subject matter was more to blame - best advice- start working on requirements asap freshman year, some classes are only offered spring or fall - if you are not on the right cycle it will cost you time. Get the lower level done so you can take comm 300 class as you can not go further until you meet that requirement. Try go best grades 3.4 in your major so you can qualify for the honors program which can replace additional seniot thesis work - good luck
