Help me! Shrinking t-shirts

I just got a t-shirt (sz small) from a college that I was recently admitted to but it’s gigantic, so I need to shrink it by at least three inches. If I were home, I would just ask my mother to do my laundry and I’m sure the t-shirt would shrink, but I’m not so I need help.

Any suggestions??

Back when fabric was not pre-shrunk, washing it in really hot water, and drying it in a hot dryer would have done the trick.

These days, with a normal college-bookstore type t-shirt, I suspect the only effective ways to shrink it three inches would be (a) return it for an XS or XXS, or (b) grow an extra three inches.

I think JHS is right - my D went out running yesterday with a t-shirt from her first choice college (at the moment anyway) that looked like a dress for her over her running tights, she had to prove to the coach she had shorts on over that lol. Maybe you can do what she does a lot and take an elastic hair tie and use it to sort of tie the t-shirt at the hip???

If it’s all cotton and isn’t pre-shrunk, the hot wash, hot dry may shrink the shirt three inches. If it has any polyester, it won’t shrink three inches.

In my experience, cotton Ts always shrink if you dry them in a hot dryer.

Antone you know have a sewing machine? You could remake it if the hot wash hot dry does not work.

In my experience the t-shirts (and hoodies) that are too big never shrink and the ones that are just right always do.

Just wait a decade or two and it will shrink so much you won’t fit into it.
