Help me wean myself off Diet Coke

That’s great news ccc!! Glad to hear it wasn’t too difficult!

I was a serious diet pepsi addict. Two liters a day, every day, starting with breakfast. I quit when I was pregnant with the kids, but then got back on it and drank even more.

Went cold turkey when I was in the coma last year – I have to say one thing – being in a coma was an excellent way to wipe my memory clean about a lot of cr*ppy food! When I came out, it was far easier than I imagined to follow a strict, healthy diet. Now I will occasionally have some iced tea or decaf iced coffee, but I stay away from all the carbonated stuff, diet or not. I do have lots of water (and ice – have to have my drinks cold). On occasion, I’ll have Crystal Light, though I am not terribly fond of it.

I think cutting out the Diet Pepsi helped me lose weight — if I am drinking water, I am a LOT less likely to reach for a danish or muffin.

I went off of soda a couple years back. i used to drink it non stop! in the end I went cold turkey, it was hard for about a month. I am happy to have stopped drinking it. I drink lemonade or water when I go out to eat now days.

^^^OMG Countingdown:

You were in a coma last year? Didn’t you say you had heart surgery? Was the coma related to that??? Yikes, I’m so sorry to hear this, but so glad you are doing much better now, wow.

I have never had to worry about my weight but I have been eating out of control in the last year or two out of stress…I’ve gained @15-20 pounds and I’m sure the diet coke was a contributing factor, along with menopause and chocolate (;))

So hopefully I can take control of my weight again and lose that weight…it’s been awful having my wardrobe get tight on me, especially my pants/lower half. :(

zobroward: I agree, cold turkey is the way to go!

H went cold turkey off caffeine about 5 years ago. He used to get headaches if he didn’t have 1-2 sodas by 10am. (no coffee drinkers in this household)

I LOVE Diet Coke. I remember the day I was in the student union and it first went into the vending machine. They couldn’t keep it in stock! First thing I do when I walk in the kitchen every morning is grab one and crack it open, whether it’s 6am or 9am. The rush of cold carbonation and the tart taste is wonderful. I have been known to have several in my backpack every summer when I go hiking in the back country for a few days with my friends. Before the restriction on liquids in carry-on, I would take several (at least 1x/day) with me on European business trips, as the stuff they call over there Diet Coke is an imposter!

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned that the diet coke/diet pepsi ingredients are filled with stuff that’s addicting so that you crave more…a vicious cycle.

I don’t drink coffee either, but need to develop a taste for iced tea…someone suggested mixing with lemonade…at this point I’m glad to be away from that stuff and hope to reverse this weight gain I’ve just experienced.

btw: COSTCO switched their soda machines this week to Pepsi machines instead of Coke…wonder what the Coke people did to make Costco so mad…must have significantly raised the price…
